Default ask me how I ended up 44, never married and with no kids

Since I turn 44 on Friday, I've naturally been ruminating on my life and my choices...wondering how and why I've ended up where I am.

Not that I'm complaining, but I've always wanted to be married and have children, so it's odd it hasn't happened yet.

Here's my life now:

I live in Vegas in a decent house with a pool, with my dog, a cat, and another 2+2er who is renting a room.

I am technically unemployed, as I am not doing any TV/film work at the moment. Instead, I'm paying the bills via NL50 online and live 1/2 and 2/5 NL, while I, yet again, attempt to get a film financed. I've also somehow ended up with virtually no savings or plan for retirement - so I guess I will work until I die.

I was briefly dating a woman my own age up until a month ago, but that petered out...so no relationship at the moment.

I'm thinking of writing a novel...I'm tired of writing screenplays that don't get made into movies. I have two very different novel ideas and wouldn't mind bouncing them off of you guys to see which one is more viable...

I figured it might be interesting (or self-serving, I don't know) to answer questions about my choices in life...plus, let me know how different my life is from yours!

So gogogogogogogo

I think I've figured out why without asking.

1, I could be wrong, and 2, I'm not trying to sound like a douche (really). I would guess, based on your job description/11,000 posts, that you spend too much time on the internet.

WTF.

Dom, the worst thing to do would let it negatively affect you. Most of my friends are older than I am (I'm 34) and in the last year or two a few of them have gotten married for the first time and are expecting or have had their first child. They're basically all at or over 40, and one of them is 49.

Let's face it, it's way easier for a guy to stay single and childless until a much more advanced age. If a guy hears a clock ticking it's probably not nearly as loudly as women generally do. The only awkward thing to me would be being like a 65 year old guy at your kid's high school reunion, but whatever.

I honestly don't know what to ask you though. "What is it like to have lived half of your adulthood without changing poopy pants?"? Pretty awesome I would guess.

This really honestly makes no sense at all now that you explained it. I've peeled off nearly 10K posts on this site since the start of last year and I have a perfectly functioning social life away from here. Seriously.

And the job description should be irrelevant to whether he would have been married or not. It's a job. Just more nakedness involved than most other jobs.

EDIT: misread, you mean the poker job not the pr0n job. It's my experience that most guys who play poker as their main source of income do so for only like four hours per day, give or take. That's less than half of a "normal" person's shift and allows for a lot more free time, obviously.

EDIT2: my first point still stands I guess - he probably plays poker in the nude.

I'm gonna whip my Dad's ass if he shows up to my HS reunion trying to bogart the desperate 30-something trim that will be there.

Hey, I'm not saying I'm going through some sort of mid-life crisis, I just thought it might be interesting for some to hear what it's like. While I wish I would've gotten married sooner (I've been engaged twice) I really like my life so far and I'm glad I haven't fallen into the mid-forties-divorced-dad routine that seems so common now.

As for being an "old" father, screw it. People are having children later in life all the time now. My Father is 75 and still does mini-ironmans. SO I don't think it would bug me to go to my kid's HS graduation when I'm 65.

You might have something there! Although you don't know my history...meeting women has never been a problem or me. so that's not it.

Tuq, I haven't been in porn for years. And it was never a full-time gig...it was always just another film job for me.
