Default Re: Q about Stox\' line

Stox uses this line if the board becomes quite coordinated with the turn card and the lines b/f and b/c are close.

In his book stox gives the example of 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] in the BB against a steal from an agressive CO with the board Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] . CO can raise the turn with a GS or a FD. Stox seems to think it is better to give a free card than pay 3BB when we are behind, especially if CO is dumb enough to semi bluf. It is true if CO has a FD with 15 outs we don't give up much if we give a free card. In order to blance this play, we can c/f the turn with a bluf on the flop, for example T9 with K83 on the flop. But Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is not good for bluffing imo. Maybe we can also c/r the turn sometimes.

Your book is great, but it is not very clear when you can use this line. c/r c/r doesn't look good with a good hand and a drawy board. In your example c/r c/r with QTo gives too often a free a card to a draw and CO can find a fold on the river with 9x imho. With 33, there is the same problem of free card and we miss the chance of bet/3bet.

Moreover a good agressive CO don't bet the turn with a hand worst than 97, if we never fold on this spot imo.

i think what he means is that you must c/f sometimes because otherwise you cannot induce bluffs by worse hands from observant opponents.

this also means that you sometimes need to c/c the turn and c/f the river.
