Default Stars 650 WSOP Strategy

Won a 73+7 sub sat last night, can't make this upcoming Sunday, so got 2 weeks to prep.

General statements about this tourney?

30 min rounds and a qualifer, what adjustments do folks make vs. a normal multi?

Get plenty of exercise and do not get drunk for the next two weeks. No more than two drinks in an evening and get 7hrs rest every night. More exercise the better.
Spend all of your free time reading 2+2 & watching tournaments, taking notes and work on that book on tournament poker, that will never get published, but will improve your play if the info is correct.
If you smoke, cut down. Keep a notepad and write down every time you have a smoke and try to increase the time between smokes.
Eat 3 hrs prior to tournament. Have snacks available. NEVER leave the table. NEVER miss a single hand. Have a bucket available for taking a leak in case of emergency.

Consider every hand that goes to showdown (where you did not play) and you did not make some kind of note, a failure on your part.

Get everyone out of the house, or wear earplugs.

I won my seat in yesterday's $650.

My strategy:

1) Flop sets and get paid.
2) Hit flush draws against sets and get paid.
3) Don't get sucked out on.
4) Have a weak-tight table that does not defend their blinds.

Oh, and win your coinflips too.

Play most of the tournament like you would a deep stacked tournament. You can get in there with speculative hands, trying to make big hands and accumulate chips. When you get down to about 80 players or so, you should start altering your strategy slightly. As it gets closer to the bubble, you want to alter your strategy significantly.

Bubble strategy for a satellite is basically avoiding having to play pots for big amounts of chips. This does not mean that you do not make raises. It means that you just need to be pretty sure you're not getting called. It also means that you don't want to be doing much calling. Stealing is not nearly as valuable as restealing.

Learning your opponents is extremely important. There are some opponents who, if they have enough chips, will never call an all in from basically any stack. If they raise, you can push with absolute assurance they will fold. At the same time, you need to know the players who are going to reraise you with nothing. Not to loosen your calling ranges, but to just not raise into them. Remember, if you are very close to the bubble with a decent stack, you can't call an all in. So any time you raise and they reraise, you have just given them chips.
