Quick. To tip or not to tip.

I have an installer in my home right now installing blinds that I ordered several months ago. He's a very nice guy and doing a good job of installing the blinds.

So, when he is done, should I tip or not tip? And if I tip, how much should I tip? It looks like it's gonna take him right at an hour to finish.


Also of note is that I ordered the blinds from Lowes and they really screwed me around on these. I ordered them almost 3 months ago, and when I ordered them they told me 3-4 weeks to get them in and it's been almost 3 months now.

I just don't really want to not give him something if it's standard or give him something when it's not standard and it be awkward.

I'd give him a nice lunch, but don't give him $5 if you give him cash, at least $20 if you are going to do it at all

I like to tip people who are exceptionally friendly or helpful in a service job that normally doesn't receive tips.

I got home late last night on a flight that was late. Walked off the plane, the shuttle to lots C&D was empty and holds about 20 people. My girlfriend and I got on along with one person right behind us. The guy was very friendly and didn't wait to fill up. He could tell we had a long day and took us right to our cars. I tipped him and it was apparent he doesn't get many tips. He made my night as travelling was miserable up to that point and I think I made his.

Also isn't today obscene tipping day or something?

if you're just tipping you should be ok but if you put the rest in definitely use lube.

Echo the offer something to drink, during the install, or immediately thereafter.

Tipping here would definately be non-standard. I wouldn't unless the guy is doing something above and beyond the contract to install.

Also, initially my wife was deadset on having a professional install our blinds. Then we found out how much it cost. We bought some decent ones from Home Depot instead. After I got past the learning curve on the first set of blinds (about a half hour), each following set was up in less than fifteen minutes.

It's not that hard.
