I've seen her kill a bird from a third floor ledge by boxing it with her paws and snaping it's neck with her mouth. That was pretty cool. A bit of an update as well, cat is going to be fine, I'll pick her up this morning at the vet sans about 4 inches off her tail. When I got home last night I looked in the window and there was like 3 inches of tail there with some bone sticking out. It was a bit disturbing.

My gf closed our cat's tail in a door and she lost an inch too. At least your vet was upfront about having to remove the inch.
Ours said we could save it, so we paid 400 to do so, then another 500 to amputate when it failed and became necrotic. Glad she's alive though.
