Default recommend a book plz

I want to learn about weightlifting, running, and nutrition. My focus is on performing well in kickboxing and judo, so I don't care about looking good, or whatever. I feel like a lot of fitness books are geared towards guys with spray on tans or girls with fat asses. I just want to be the best fighter I can be.

Thanks in advance!

Hi dethgrind,

Presumably that book is about working out from home? That sounds fine, and I thank you for the recommendation, but I DO actually belong to a gym. What I'm trying to figure out is a way to customize a workout routine for myself. Since personal trainers seem to be on the expensive side, I'd probably be better off getting a book, doing some research and putting something together on my own.

Read the FAQ's and do starting strength or 5x5 (and change it along the way as you see fit). You can learn way more from the internet then any individual book will teach you.

I like the journal articles at abcbodybuilding.com. If you are looking for the science to support why something works or doesn't then read the articles there.

Never Gymless - Ross Enamait
Infinite Intensity - Enamait

Power to the People - Pavel Tsatsouline
The Naked Warrior - Tsatsouline

Starting Strength - Rippetoe

The only one I haven't read is Starting Strength, but every where I look, it has a positive review. Enamait's books are perfect for a fighter, and deal more with conditioning, Pavel's books are about max. strength and would also be good for a fighter.

Steve Maxwell has some new dvds out which may be good too if your into kettlebells.
