Default Let\'s Talk CAZ

Hi everyone,

Living in Tucson and playing 3-4 times a week down here but am thinking about taking a trip up to Casino Arizona. Can anyone give me a run down on the room? I am mostly looking for hold 'em and Stud between 6/12 and 20/40. I cant find a stud game in Tucson (minus one 75/150 rotation) to save my life.

Any other general thoughts on the room are appreciated. Thanks

bma

You won't find stud above 6/12 unless it's part of the 40/80 or 60/120 mix games.

There is occasionally one 6/12 H/L game going, and maybe 1 6/12 Hi and a 6/12 H/L.

Plenty of limit HE at the 6/12, 8/16, and 20/40 levels. The 6/ and 9/ games are jackpot ($5 drop) and the $20 is a time game ($7/HH).

If you're going to come up for a weekend, get your seat early because Fri/Sat nights all 45 tables are usually full. There should be about 3-4 20/40 games going. Not sure about the 6/12 and 8/16 but at least 2 of each I would guess.

The only stud game you will find is a 3/6 stud game with a .50 ante. I donk around in that while waiting for my seat. Stud games are filled with ancient people, and all are about triple or more my age when I sit...so don't expect that game to go very late. It usually starts by 7am when the bus from the RV park gets there...

And there is a group of about 10-15 stud hi/lo players that usually get a 6/12 hi/lo game going on the weekend, and occasionally during the weeks, 4pm +.

Limit hold'em is obviously your best bet. There are about two each of 6/12 and 8/16 games, sometimes more, sometimes less, but very rarely (read 4am on weekdays) less than 2 'blue chip ($2)' games going.

The 20/40 is always going as well, and can have anywhere between 2-4 tables, but it is really pushing it when it gets 4 games going, and the fourth game usually breaks within 2 hours of starting. Nothing inbetween those limits, look for me at 8/16 or 20/40!!

Good luck.

What games are on the weekend that are regularly spread at 20/40 or above? I may be out there this weekend with the Red Sox in town.

Suggestions to where I should stay? At CAZ, itself?

20/40 and 40/80 go every day. Lately the 60/120 and 75/150 haven't been running very often. More often on the weekends, but not a given. The 5/150 is also always running, and 10/150 is usually going in the evenings.

CAZ doesn't have a hotel attached, but some nearby hotels offer a "casino rate." I'm not sure how good that rate is or isn't, though. http://www.casinoaz.com/lodging.asp has some details.

LHE 40/80 always, 60/120 most evenings, and 75/150 rarely. Most nights you will find the 60/120 mixed game running.

I wonder why a room would offer both 6/12 and 8/16 games, and then nothing else lower than 20/40? Seems like it would make more sense to change the 8/16 to 10/20 or maybe 12/24.

I don't play in the game but it's really 'Dealer's choice' rather than 'mix'.

They play a lot of Stud Hi-lo (both with and w/o the 8 qualifier) and O/8. A player can choose other games but there are some games that can't be played in AZ (like Badugi or 5 card 0/8) so those are out. I'm not sure about Crazy Pineapple but I think that gets played also and it's one of the reasons I don't play the game. I hate being the guy who gets up for a round of what he doesn't want to play.

The game goes pretty much every night but now that so many regulars are up in LV for the WSOP it's been spottier.

To the poster who wondered about the 6-12 and 8-16:

Up until a few years ago there was 6-12 and 10-20. In my experience 10-20 is always the worst game in the house unless it's the biggest spread because of the 2/4 chip structure. Once they tried the 8/16 w/ it's 4/8 chip structure it killed the 10-20 dead. Thank goodness. There is no 15-30 HE because they decided from day 1 not to have it and they've never changed their minds. Probably not enough players to support both a 15 and a 20 anyway.
