The first time I went to jail I'll bet I would have snitched on someone if it got me out of there that night.

Yah well live and learn. Luckily(?) there was no one for me to snitch on and now I have a lot more experience with the police etc. People tend to get freaked out the first time they deal with police in a criminal matter.

Don't you realise that if you start saying "NO" "No" "NO" you can't look in there that it actually gives the cops reasonable grounds for suspicion. This means that they can then look in your boot wether you like it or not.

[/ QUOTE ]

lol, I hope you are kidding. What would be the use of laws protecting against unreasonable searches if yes=yes and no=yes?

We are talking about the USA here, not China or the USSR in the 1950s...

Just say NO, I don't want to talk to you, NO you cannot look at my cell phone. NO, I don't want you to look in my trunk. NO, you cannot come in my house. NO, I don't want to talk to you.

You see these guys on cops all the time, giving consent to search their vehicles, like complete dumb asses. The cops can be pretty darn tricky in getting the consent sometimes. It always turns out [censored] for them. I must admit it's funny to watch.

WTF? You have every right to say, "I don't want you looking through my cell-phone."
You can even say, "I might know his phone-number but I just don't want to give it to you."

Your way of "every time you say no means they can do what they want now" is really incorrect and pretty much would mean that nobody ever has any rights.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your such a tit.
1. Cops identify a witness who they believe has the mobile phone number of the suspect. In other words a way of identifying the suspect.
2. Witness has a mobile phone they believe holds the phone number of suspect.
3. ***If witness does not voluntarily give them this information the phone becomes an item of significance to the investigation and can therefore be taken from witness as evidence for interrogation***

Cops could, would and did get what they wanted whether you like it or not.

It's got nothing to do with respect for the police. It's got to do with actually having been arrested a few times and detained plenty other and knowing how far "I know my rights!" actually gets you in real life.

Whatever, didn't expect my post to be popular - just was kind of lame how everyone was piling on the "snitch" when his friend is clearly a jackass who got what he had coming to him (and a drunk driver).

[/ QUOTE ]

You are probably the same kind of person who thinks saying "no" to a vehicle search doesn't work. If you seriously think that a solid knowledge of your rights and the ability to calmly and confidently look a cop in the eye and defend yourself doesn't get you anywhere, you are sadly mistaken. I for one am [censored] glad my friends and myself don't cave as easily as you do. Believe what you wanna believe, but after being pulled over for doing 24 over the speed limit, me and 2 friends pulled out of the car and questioned separately about a certain "odor," with enough [censored] in the car to send us straight to jail (no "1st offense" [censored], straight to [censored] federal prison [censored]), and the 3 of us driving away with a verbal warning to "slow down driving home from guys' nite out," you'll have a [censored] hard time convincing me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your experience doesn't hold much weight seeing as you're from Canada

Do you realize that we are in the United States where the individual has rights?
He can say, "get a warrant."

I'm not even sure they would have grounds to get a warrant even if they wanted to actually pursue that if he denied knowing the guy's phone-number.

judge: so you THINK the guy has the suspect's phone-number but you don't know for certain and he denies having it. How will you even know which number is his if you don't even know his name?

Some people are bad at this basic-logic stuff.

So [censored] what?!
Let the cops bother a judge to get the warrant then, but don't do their work for them.

rule 1 in dealing with cops: be polite
rule 2: say nothing incriminating. or even better say nothing at all. don't lie or try to outsmart the cop, just keep your mouth shut.
rule 3: do nothing that you aren't directly ordered to do. if the cops ask you to do something, say "no" when in doubt. just say "no" anyway even if you think it doesn't matter.

and you will very likely be a lot better off than if you disregard any of these rules.
