Re: Angle Shooting A$$H0&# @ Red Rock
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Situation 2 - You made the mistake.... wait till he puts his chips in there. [/ QUOTE ]What a disappointingly scummy attitude. I've never had the misconception that poker is or ever was a 'gentleman's game,' but what the guy did in situation two is nothing but cheating. It's not BSing during a hand to try to get an opponent to make a mistake, it's breaking the rules. [/ QUOTE ] A. Casinos are noisy places. People speak with accents and with different degrees of diction. Statements are misheard or misinterpreted. Maybe the other guy lied about what he said, maybe the OP misheard, and dealers often make assumptions instead of paying attention. You seem to be 100% convinced what the guy said, and you weren't even there. B. Waiting 2 seconds would prevent a lot of mistakes and angles. Something about an ounce of prevention. |

Re: Angle Shooting A$$H0&# @ Red Rock
[ QUOTE ]
For one thing, the more words that were muttered in a sentence, the more likely it is that he was misheard. [/ QUOTE ]I agree, and OP would have done better to just wait for the guy to push chips in, or for the dealer to at least clarify. I don't think there is a written rule to the effect, but an understanding of English indicates that sticking qualifying words between "I" and "call" changes the meaning away from being a declaration. "I have to call," "I'm compelled by pot odds to call," "I'm probably going to call," "I should call..." all of those still indicate indecision. But the villain didn't say something ambiguous like "I guess I have to call" to try to get a read or induce premature action, he called and lied about it after he saw the flush. |

If the guy wasn't calling, then why was he tabling his hand while he said it?

If the guy wasn't calling, then why was he tabling his hand while he said it? [/ QUOTE ] Another example - I value bet the river, opponent states me down then without saying a word turns his cards over in a forward moving action - I interpreted that to mean he is calling. i turn over my hand and he mucks, but he doesn't have to call my river bet. Do you see why? Its my mistake, not his. |

It's not BSing during a hand to try to get an opponent to make a mistake, it's breaking the rules. [/ QUOTE ] There are all sort of scummy players out there, if you think you are only playing with gentlemen, then you are sorely mistaken. PROTECT YOUR HAND should be your religion. Don't ever let anyone angle shoot you. Yesterday, playing 10-150 spread limit, I flopped the nut straight with a well disguised hand (Q9o that I called a raise with, don't ask). Guy shoots out half pot bet ($60) two callers, I reraise max, after a while he calls, the others fold. Turn doesn't pair board, he checks, I bet $150. He calls. River doesn't pair board. He checks, I bet $150. He thinks about it and mumbles something about needing to call, and acts like he's ready to turn his cards over without pushing any chips forward. I don't do anything. I ask the dealer, "is he calling". Dealer asks him, are you calling? He says clearly "yes, I'm calling". Only then do I show. Don't rush your hands, protect them, don't give angle shooters the opportunity to rip you off. If you do, they made the scummy angle shoot, but you made the mistake. |

Re: Angle Shooting A$$H0&# @ Red Rock
i agree with those who have concluded that none of these actions is an angle shot. if you want to hear about a true angle shot, let me tell you what happened to me.
so, i’m on the button, headsup with this guy on the turn after a little bit of pre-flop and flop action. i accidentally check out of turn, and guess what the guy does? he throws a big bet out there! i’m almost positive he had nothing and only did it because of that extra information. dirty ole angle shooter. |

Psychologycal warfare is perfectly legal, very hard to deal with and should never be confused with angleshooting. What OP described was a clear angle and i can't blame OP for enjoying so much taking all the chips from the Ahole. |
