Default Craps- Pressing Bets

Hey guys, I only know the very basics to craps (only played a few times) and don't have any pressing strategies that I'm comfortable with. I've read a little bit about the slow press system and level press system.

The other night at a casino, I was watching a $10 craps table, during which some kid was having an outstanding roll. He had to have rolled about seven eights along with a few points. At this point I was watching a guy at the end of the table. He kept pressing whenever an eight hit, however the more he pressed, the more money he received as well as additional money going onto the place bet.

I'm sorry for the vague description, I was wondering how this was possible for him to be receiving a lot of money as well as substantially increasing his place bet. I assumed he was just pressing 1 unit, but I never heard him say it and am not sharp enough yet to understand the terminology between him and the dealers that was being discussed when pressing his bets.

Again sorry for the vague description, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with what was going on in the situation described above. Also, what pressing system do you use?

I only read your first paragraph.

Betting systems don't work.

It depends what you mean by "receiving a lot of money" and "substantially increasing" the bet. The place bet on 6 or 8 wins $7 for every $6 wagered. Let's say he started with a $12 bet and pressed $12 each time. That would go like this:

<ul type="square">[*]First win is $14. $2 taken into cash, $12 used to press, new bet amount is $24.
[*]Second win is $28. $16 taken into cash, $12 used to press, new bet amount is $36.
[*]Third win is $42. $30 taken into cash, $12 used to press, new bet amount is $48.
[*]Etc.[/list]
If he did this seven times, as you say, he certainly would have been taking a lot back and pressing substantially.

As for "comfort" with a place betting pressing system, it's important to remember that these bets are -EV regardless of what system you use. I would note that the lowest edge is on 6 and 8, then 5 and 9. So, if you press your bets more the farther inside they are, your blended house edge will be less.

I don't use a pressing system, but if you think one would make the experience more enjoyable for you, certainly go ahead.

Personally speaking I like to same bet my place bets at the beginning and then start pressing them once I made my money back. I will usually full press once and then same bet the next time or half press depending on how much money I am up and if I am winning or lossing. I will continue to alternate this way and if the numbers are hitting taking wins from one number to press the others. Like they say no betting system works just do what you feel comfortable with but try to be aggressive with the houses money.

Thanks guys, I shouldn't have said pressing system I realize these don't work. I was just curious as to what everyone else did. When I play on only make place bets on the six and 8.

As for my example, sorry I can't give more details, I didn't want to go to close to the table although it wouldn't surprise me if he went with something like Poshua's example.

Thanks again

Once it's in your hand -- it's not their money.

If you play conservatively with your buy-in money, and aggressively with winnings, you're certain to book a lot of losing sessions for every win.

I kind of do what was said above. I place 6 and 8. If one of those is the point, I go to the adjacent number (point 6, I place 5 and 8).

First hit on number, same bet. Now I'm even for that bet. Next hit on same number, press one unit. If I'm betting $12 that's two "units" to me, so I go to $18, $24, etc.

I don't go nuts....I've gone 6 units and that was plenty. If it keeps hitting after that, I'm happy with what I keep raking in. The hot roll has to stop sometime.

If the numbers get out of whack (say 6 has hit 4 times), I'll press up the 8 to get it closer to even), but I'll overweight the one that's been hitting.
