Default Couple of Craps Questions

Hey guys, justs tarted learning craps and have played a few times but I still have a couple of questions.

1) Tipping- The past couple times I've played at $5 tables and have placed a $5 bet on the pass line for the dealer whenever I tipped. The other night I played at a $10 table, am I allowed to place a $5 bet on the pass line for the dealer or does it have to be $10? I ended up putting a $10 bet on the pass line, but that seemed expensive to me.

2) Free odds line/ I've played at 2 casinos, one let you bet 5x when the point was a 6 or an 8, 4x on a 5 or 9, and 3x on a 4 or 10. The casino I played at the other night, you could only place a 2x bet no matter the point. What's an optimal amount to bet on the free odds line?

Also, if there is one what's the popper strategy for pressing your bets?

Thanks

You can bet as low for the dealers as the lowest denonimation chip on the table. In some places this is still 25 cents.

The optimal amount of free odds is limited only by your bankroll and willingness to bet on a true odds proposition. The initial pass line bet odds do not change but increasing your odds bet lowers the house edge percentage on the total amounts of both your combined pass (or don't pass) bets and odds bets. Increasing your odds bet to the maximum allowed though always the right thing to do will also increase your variance and thereby increase your risk of ruin.

1)tipping - i tip by if the point established is a 4,6,8, or 10, ill make a $1 hardway bet player control for them on whichever point it was, if it hasnt been hitting that often ill tell them to drop it, if it hits, sometimes ill tell them to place a 6 or an 8 and drop the rest, they enjoy being part of the game too and its a fun way to get them involved, even if it misses, they still appreciate the effort

2) if youre playing thru establishing passline and comeline bets and backing it with maximum odds allowed, i press my bets in the following manner, if its a 5dollar table and i hit a $5 point, the next bet i make will be $7 backed with odds, then $10 backed with odds, then $15 backed with odds if youre lucky to get that far, if i hit one on a $15 point i usually regress back to the original $5 bet

Play the back, lay full odds. If you get three points up, throw the boys a dollar for a six-one hop. Or a 3/4 hop, 2/5 hop, whatever. If you want to give them $5 -- throw a dollar each for the next 5 rolls. The boys love hop bets, and because you have to call it -- it allows you to advertise it 5 times for $5. If a Keno runner comes around -- buy them a 4-5-6-8-9-10 six spot for a buck, then they'll be watching the Keno board as well

A $5 line bet that they lock up or lose is quickly forgotten -- get some mileage out of your zooks.

As someone said, you can tip any amount, on any bet, or just say, for the dealers, and they'll bank it.

I like to bet for the dealers $1 on each of the numbers ($6 total). They get 2:1 if any number comes up, so they get awesome odds that you wouldn't be able to get.

Concerning odds: optimally, if they let you do 1000x odds, you'd take the full odds. Go as high as you're allowed and as high as you're comfortable betting.

Everyone above got it right on the "tip" - any denomination will work. If you're not taking max odds, you can always stack it on top of your odds too. Pay attention to the places that say only "2x" odds; they usually will allow a little more than double for points of 6 or 8. (In Illinois, I was able to bet $25 on a $10 pass line with 2x odds when the point is 6 or 8... at Harrah's in San Diego, I could go up to $30 on a $10 pass bet with a point of 6 or 8).

In the past, I'd make $2 wagers for dealers at a $5 table without a problem. You can always add it to the top of your bet, if it is a problem. Let the dealers know that they're riding with you.

Whatever your session and overall bankrolls can afford.
