Default Please tell me about Commerce

I made a post a few days ago asking for info on Bay101. Now there's a change of plans and I'm going to LA so I guess I'll be playing at Commerce,Bike.
Some questions:

1) How many tables of between 8-16 and 15-30 are there at any given time? What's the rake?
2) Is the place nice like in Vegas (Bellagio,Wynn etc)
3) Comps?
I know there's a Crown Plaza hotel in there....is it worth 150 bucks a night or is there something decent witthin walking distance for cheaper?
4) Good restaurants in the casino?nearby?
5) How far away are the other big name poker rooms by car?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

I made a post a few days ago asking for info on Bay101. Now there's a change of plans and I'm going to LA so I guess I'll be playing at Commerce,Bike.
Some questions:

1) How many tables of between 8-16 and 15-30 are there at any given time? What's the rake? - More than anywhere else in the world, the rake is also rather high. They dont have a no-flop no drop policy there.

2) Is the place nice like in Vegas (Bellagio,Wynn etc) its the largest card room in the world... its not a casino like you are familiar with. Even the table games are different due to California laws. No worries, you will love it but its not glamorous.

3) Comps? free food in the high limit room
I know there's a Crown Plaza hotel in there....is it worth 150 bucks a night or is there something decent within walking distance for cheaper? stay at the hotel, book the room at full price, then ask the floor to get you the poker room rate - its retroactive

4) Good restaurants in the casino?nearby? if your driving you can find decent food close enough to the casino. But most people choose to order from the house menu which has significant Asian tones, a lot of Korean dishes. It reminds me of Asian English pub food, really sticks to the ribs and tastey but not fancy or gourmet.

5) How far away are the other big name poker rooms by car? The Bike is the closest, but you might want to check out Hollywood Park which also has great games at your limits, its close to the airport

Anything else I should know? Buy a rack of yellow with the intention of losing it all playing Chinese Poker, playing that game is the true sign of a degenerate.Get drunk and play 1/2 Stud, cracking up at how everyone at the table wants to see 7th street no matter what they hold. Drink Boba tea, and Thai Ice Coffee!

My notes in bold.

Commerce rarely runs $15-30 and does not have $8-16 or $10-20. They do have a loosey goosey $9-18 game with usually 5-10 tables running at any given time and also 3-10 tables of $20-40.

Bike usually has 1-4 tables of $8-16.

15-30 is pretty much dead at Commerce. I don't think it has gone in months. Even over the past month, with the LA Poker Classic going on, and the 20-40 games having been moved to the same area as the 9-18 games, the 15 still never goes. I don't know why this is, as the same players play 9- 15- and 20-.

During slow periods there are usually three 9-18 games going, with nine or more during weekend evenings (probably 5-7 going on a typical weekday evening). There are usually more 20-40 games than 9-18.

20-40 and up get free food, but you can often get the floorman to comp you if you're playing 9-18 if you've been there a while.

There is a restaurant in the casino, but I've never eaten there. You can eat tableside. The food will sustain you through a marathon 24-hour session, but it's nothing to write home about. People rave about the chicken kabobs, but they don't thrill me. For $4.25 the (big) Baja Burrito is pretty good.

The Bike is about ten minutes away by car. They spread 6-12, 8-16, and 20-40. They advertise a 10-20 game, but I've never seen it going.

The 6- and 8- games at the Bike can be wild, but are often rock gardens, with two or three prop players.

"Anything else?" Prepare for massive Variance.

The death of 15/30 is by choice, Commerce realized (correctly) this limit was eating into their 9/18 and 20/40 games. But last I know they were spreading 15/30 on busy weekends only on the platform - but that was before they moved 20/40 to the main room.

Looks like I will have to move up to 20-40 for the first time. If you see an intimidated looking weak tight player, please be kind.

Yes, its played Mandarin style - which is different from the way its usually played in Vegas mixed games. Its a serious gambling game with an edge. Instruction booklets are available there.

It was kind of odd to walk in there and not see/or hear slot machines. To me it's just an effing huge cardroom. Not really a casino. Not a whole lot for non-players to do.

It was kind of overwhelming for me when I first saw it. They weren't lying when people told me it was like a football field full of poker tables. It really is incredible to see. Bring something to catch the drool.

I can't wait to actually play there.

I take it with a drop with no flop rule that you're not chopping blinds?
