Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...

[ QUOTE ] Handreading [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] agree 100%. idk abt any of the other [censored], but this is what has made me a lot of money. Being able to play hands based on what you think they have/what they think you have, and not the actual strength of your hand will make you lots of monies. |

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
Well i went with value betting which is heavily, if not completely, influenced by hand reading.

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
[ QUOTE ]
A good player who doesn't actually play well isn't a good player. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree here. To me good player means a player that understands the game well. To me he is better player than the one who just happens to win more but lacks understanding. |

[/ QUOTE ] yours is better. i'd guess that you can play thousands of hands with someone and have little idea as to their hand reading abilities. it's things like value-betting, big calls etc. that are a function of good hand reading that quantify this category and can give you an idea as to whether or not they have this ability. |

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
Handreading is hudge imo.
But mainly what separates the "good" players from the tagfish is that the good players know why they're doing what they're doing. |

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
The more I play, the more I realize the good player:
1. has the fundamental ABC stuff down 2. doesn't tilt 3. isn't given to FPS Great players have more; but, to be a good player and be profitable, that's all you need. |

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
Well handreading is a pretty broad term I guess. But almost every post-flop decision involves it in some way or another. And pretty much every theory/strategy is an application of handreading.

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
I think the "doesn't tilt" concept applies especially to those people that want to play for a living, if you have this and fundamentals it is pretty hard to lose. If you manage your roll and keep in control of your emotions in the long run you cannot fail. A bit OT but someone once said to me that going pro its not about the cards and the moves it is all about discipline, imo I think he's 100% right.

Re: Define a \"Good Player\"...
Yeah. It's an oversimplification (metagame aside), but for SSNL a pretty good decision making process for any street is: You have a hand, they have a range, pick the most +EV move for your hand versus their range.
Generally putting them on a good range is tougher than picking the most +EV most against their range, though the latter is sometimes tricky as well. |
