AC and red chips in small limit games? and AC bus questions

I just got back from a couple of days of AC fun.

I only played low limit hold 'em at Trop and Taj. I guess I had always played no limit while down there, because I was amazed at how red chips were the norm in 2/4 and 3/6. Most people came to the table with a stack of red, maybe $20 in whites. It didn't really seem to change the amount of $$ in the pot, but it still seemed wrong that I would see people post the $1 SB with a red bird. What's the deal with that?

We took the port authority bus saturday morning. We were shooting for the 9:30 bus straight to the Trop, but were told that it had left at 9:12 when we got there. Another two buses later and were on our way at 10:30. Overall it was still the way to go for getting down there.

Does anyone know about buses leaving from Grand Army Plaza or near there? Also, a girl I played with at the Trop said there was a China Town bus that was essentially free because of the refund. Anyone know about that bus?

Overall I had blast and padded the small but growing bankroll. The wife did well and bought herself a necklace with her winnings. Ever since I started keeping my BR separate from our day to day money, it has made the whole poker thing way more tolerable for my wife. Now that I know how easy the bus was, I think I'll have to make the trip more often

Almost every poker game in Atlantic city is played with predominantly red chips.

Low limit games use red chips with a sprinkling of white. Higher limit games use red chips with a sprinkling of green.

The exceptions can be found in the Borgata high limit room and, of course, the Trop pink chip game.

I prefer white chips over the red birds playing 2/4 limit. Something psychological about playing with 50 white chips versus 10 red chips, especially if you are short stacked. I dont know why, but its something that plays with my head when I keep breaking red birds, esp. if the session isn't going well.

I usually ask for as many whites as the dealer/cashier can spare in AC, but often there is a short amount of white, so I end up with reds anyway.

I think its the dumbest thing ever. You ask for change of $100 at an AC 2/4 table and they give you 15 reds and 20 whites. Add in the fact that the table is dropping about 5 or 6 whites off the table EVERY hand and pretty soon there are almost no whites to speak of.

It slows up the game tremendously and makes for a lot of spots where it is unclear if a guy is calling or raising when he tosses in a red chip on the cheap streets.

I guess its a case of "who cares its 2/4" but it still seems unnecessarily troublesome to play 2/4 with 90% of the chips in play being red.

I think they give reds when you're actually sitting down at the table so that they don't keeping have to get a fill, which always takes forever.

Yeah but a lot of these places dont have cages near the tables so everyone buys in at the table. This is not the case at Taj or Borgata but at a lot of smaller places it is, Harrah's for instance.

I think this is an idiotic trend as well. I started to notice this about a year and a half ago. I think this is bad for the game a) slow the game down with all the changing b) the physical size of the pots get smaller which has an impact on looseness.

I don't play 2/4 much anymore, but when I do I sit with $80-$120 in all whites.

Years ago, when it was all white chips used at the tables I would buy some reds to keep the size of my stack down as to not look like I'm winning much. But ultimately, I think this is flawed thinking and more chips physically there are at the table, the better for llhe games.
