What hand do you think villian can have that will call a turn bet and not have us beat?

goof, at live stakes that warrant posting in ss you need to bet/fold the turn.

I disagree, I have seen some very tricky play at levels as low as 4/8 live on the turn vs a paired board like this. I think Goof's play and post was outstanding, I play it the same against an observant & potentially tricky opponent at any level, but i bet the turn against a non-thinker/calling station. Hopefully the entire table is watching - meta value is fantastic.

If the 4/8 games are bad enough that this is the right line against an unknown, then these are the end of days.

It was in the 15 I think, but I just thought it was a spot that wasn't commonly discussed.

if you think he will fold 99, TT, JJ, etc. then I like your line. But against normal live unknowns I think I would just bet this turn.

I know what your trying to do, and it makes sense, plus it makes you feel better then getting check/raised on the turn. But without some math, or a read, I don't know if I can be convinced we didn't lose a bb.

I don't like this. What hands can we beat that villian is going to call with?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you underestimate how bad live player are. Villian calls a river raise with any pair IMO.

You really have to bet the turn here. Most 4/8 players would call on the flop with any pp or even a backdoor straight draw like JT or KJ. Why not keep betting and extract maximum value? Also, typical 4/8 players are more likely to call the turn (when they still have a chance to win) than the river.

UTG raises then checks the flop, I bet, hmmm, I do not know much about him.

I am betting the turn. I would rather bet the turn than risk a cr from a better hand on the river. Mostly because imo, the turn bet can save me from a tough decision and looking bad on the river - with the presumption he folds the turn of course.
