Re: Curiosity about your progress
I deposited $100 at Paradise March of 2005. That was my last deposit, but not my first. Started at .05/.10 and moved up every 300 bbs. I have played as high as 5/10, but it took me in the neighborhood of 120k hands to get to that level. I won some decent dough last year and have surpassed that this year.
[ QUOTE ] I am the classic example of what not to do. I study very little and when I do not intensely. I very seldom review my own play. And I don't participate in much strategy disscussion. (mainly cause i suck at it and prefer to just play, man.) [/ QUOTE ] this pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
started 07/04 when i made this account.
started at .50/1 and moved down to .05/.10 won a free roll tournament at some point and moved to party .50/1 then to 1/2, then i started 6-max and was playing 1/2 and 2/4 six max on absolute and party. then i withdrew my roll before last summer for a europe trip. that was about 06/05 so less than a year of playing total. then i got back from europe and deposited another 5 or 8 hundo in 8/05. now it's about a year later and im playing 5/10 and 10/20 mostly on absolute, but im hunting for you bros at other sites, so watch out muthafckas. over this whole time, i've probably played about 140k hands, but dont quote me on that. |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
buzz -
not recently. I either one table 2/4 or 3/6 or I 4 table 25 NL. As of late it's only been the NL, as I've been too busy at school to fully commit my attention to a harder game. Basically, though, I keep 300 bucks in my roll, win 100 bucks, and then cash that 100 out. Rinse and repeat. Since quitting in june I've won about 1k doing this over x<10k hands. |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
Started playing NL tourneys with my friends. $10 buy in game, I won the first one. Kept playing in that until I had about $200. I took $125 of that, put it online at Paradise, and having done some reload bonuses, etc. Only played on Stars and Paradise.
When I started playing online, I mainly played .05/.10 at first. No real clue what I was doing, just going at it. Had a good run. Started splitting time between .05/.10 and .10/.20. Kept playing the same way, and running good. Got PT, started keeping track of my hands. Started trying to learn more about limit. Found my way here, and bought SSHE. Read it, tried to apply the concepts. Failed badly, and wiped out most of my profit at the .10/.20 level. 4,330 hands @ .05/.10 14.6BB/100 8,618 hands @ .10/.20 1.73BB/100 Kept reading here, playing some here and there. Moved up to splitting time between .10/.20 and .25/.50. With bonuses and play, and my profitable live game, built my roll up to $1100. Took at trip to Vegas in there, +$160 at 2/4 and -70 at craps. Have been playing more than before since the beginning of the summer, about 5k/hands per month. Recently cashed out $600 of my roll to help finance a bike. 17,448 hands @ .25/.50 2.76BB/100 Currently considering a move up to .50/1. Edit to add: I'm pretty happpy with building my initial $10 buy in to what I have now. All poker expenses (SSHE, PT) have come out of my roll. |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
1. deposited $50 using Visa into stars whilst drunk on xmas eve 2004. Honestly didnt think it would work. Classic.
2. Was a fish for a few months. win some lose some. beginners luck but ultimately I was down (I think I was like 40/5/1.5 from the HH I saved) 3. Emailed Stars support asking about how to withdraw my money cos I had no clue and figured I sucked...they pointed me to a 2+2 thread. THANKYOU STARS SUPPORT. U ROCK 4. I decide I may as well play some more as withdrawing is hella expensive to australia. 5. I actually read some 2+2...ding...light goes on (actually it flickered..it took me a while longer to realise 2+2 is a goldmine) 6. Im playing 2c/4c and 5c/10c and Im breakeven but not satisfied 7. lurk 2+2 heaps and start to educate myself...stillI was such a noob... 8. decide I want to be a bonuswhore (br is like $80). 9. realise that I can whore at UB 5c/10c tables 11. I whore at UB then take my BR to paradise 25c/50c tables. 12. finish paradise signup + reload. Though I was playing ok 13. whore it up at 0.5/1 whilst working on my game. I havent played without clearing a bonus at 0.5/1 like ever. I play <4k hands a month 14. Ive still got leaks and Ill move up once Im convinced ive plugged them ask me the same question in a few months and Ill be reporting that Im at 1/2..... |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
I happen to enjoy threads like these, as it seems others do too. Also, it seems a good way to introduce myself to the Micro board.
I've got a similar boring grinder story, but mine's even longer. I started "playing" poker about nine years ago (whenever Rounders came out). My buddies and I saw Rounders and one of the earlier World Series telecasts and were like "How can that be such a great game if you have to share FIVE of your cards?!?" Well I showed them... I bought Sklansky's first Hold'em Poker book and it pretty much bowled me over. I of course thought I was the [censored], and promptly lost a $40 buy-in (+ one rebuy) tourney at the local casino. Worst part about that was that more than once people would call out my hand for me after I folded, or after I bought a pot. Yeah, maybe I still had a bit to learn. So the next 7 years were college/family/career time, but I was still pecking away at various books. I worked at a library and was able to make "recommendations" about which books to buy... Needless to say this small public library miles from any legal gambling had a poker shelf that would make any 2+2'er proud. Of course I've since bought most of these for myself and I spent more time reading than playing, but as they say there's no substitute for experience. I took the online plunge when I found a couple Prima no-deposit bonuses. Between the two $10 "bankrolls" I turned one into about $100 after hundreds of $1 SNG's (of course I ran well early which helped). That's the point I made a decision (more pride than need) that I'd never make a real deposit, aside from the mandatory one Prima asks before withdrawing. So now after trying to find my game... $1 SNG's, $10NL, .25/.50 limit, then .5/1 Limit, then $25NL, now I feel limit where I belong. I got sick of losing 200 BB stacks at the $25NL games... So now I'm playing 1/2 with ~350 BB's of bankroll (and killer rakeback which is a great buffer). My main goal now is to send my family to Disneyworld next year. And all of this for a $10 no deposit bonus and countless hours of reading, playing, and lurking... |

Re: Curiosity about your progress
I began about a year & a half ago by playing free-rolls. I initially read a book by Phil Hellmuth which lead to start playing play money @ UB!
My first real $$ session was live 4/8 at the Crown where I played tight & managed to walk away with about 8bb, which I was happy with. I decided that I could play online but first I needed to research it (online play seem very foreign at the time), luckily I stumbled accross 2p2 & I read Homer's starting a br post. I ditched Hellmuth's book & began reading GSIHE then SSHE. In Sep 05 I deposted $200 into Neteller & began playing 0.25/0.50 @ Bet365, moved onto .50/1 @ Paradise then onto Party 0.50/1. After 10K of hands @ 0.50/1 I moved to 1/2. I pretty much kept at 1/2 & 2/4 FR with bonus whoring until I decided to give 6max a shot which would of been about Feb/Mar 06 I again started at .50/1 then moved upto 3/6. I built my br upto a decent size & decided to make my first withdrawal in late June. Unfortunately a few days later I began what was the biggest downswing I've experienced with about a 150bb loss @ 3/6 & 100bb at 2/4 5max both at the same time (I usually played at multiple sites at the same time). This cut my br down a fair bit so I decided to build back up from then on, I've so far caught my losses & I'm playing over-rolled again (because I'm a sook!) @ 0.50/1 -> 2/4 6max. I'm currently having some fun trying out some non-poker tracker supported sites. I have recently finished my first year playing online & I ended up getting in about 130K of hands but I tend to play less these days (only about 15K in last 3 months). My goal is to cut down a few hands to make some time to try to learn NL. |
