I dont make a living, but i use it as a 2nd job. I average about $50/hr, not outstanding but for me it certainly gets the job done.

I'm not sure its possible. The rake is just too high. If you play a strong tight aggressive game I don't know if you'll see enough hands, get enough action to even make $50 and hour long term. You may have runs where an extremely soft game will give you enough action on your good hands to win a reasonable amount. I'm interested in more feedback on this. I have played some at WinStar in OK and have found the games to be very loose. I wonder what sort of long term results a good player could expect. And I may play too tightly for that soft a game.

How is the rake too high? Max rake at the Taj is 4 bucks. It's 10%, up to 4 bucks. And everyone plays so bad/ so loose that all the pots have over 30 bucks in them.

sure, when play is really bad. But if you raise and take the blinds you aren't going to make any money...I guess that is pretty rare. The last long session I played I was really card dead. When I got hands I won small pots. Thats why I was thinking a might have been playing too tight.

Yeah. I consider myself a decent, but not great NL cash player. I play once or twice a week. Over about a year, I'm like $20 an hour, and feel I still have a lot to learn. $20 an hour ain't bad for a hobby.

What's a living? I ran into a grad student down here who was playing 4/8 LHE and occasional 2/5 NLHE for a "living". He was making ends meet until school started again, but it wasn't a career. If you mean can you make a sustainable livelihood and raise a family playing 1/2 the answer is no.
