Re: introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
I think Gil Scott-Heron is quite underappreciated. Unfortunately, his personal problems have nearly destroyed his career in recent years. He's best known for spoken word pieces like The Revolution Will Not be Televised, which has been coopted by Nike and other pop culture entities. Yet his purely musical pieces are wonderful examples of politically tinged "soul jazz," though such a term doesn't fully capture his unique sound. Johanessberg was a hit from his prime. Winter In America is another example of his not always easily categorized music.
I hope there's some light at the end of his now very dark tunnel. |

Blackbud
They're a really bluesy rock band (in the Hendrix/Cream/Zeppelin sense) but the singer has a voice very similar to Jeff Buckley's. A dodgy live recording of a gig i went to, featuring the end of one song, Heartbeat, and then another, Days Passing Away, it features a lot jamming Music Video for the single 'Heartbeat' Music Video from the single 'Barefoot Dancing' |
