Re: Help me play these monsters better.
you bet too small when you get a big hand
hand 3, minraise on the turn sucks hard hand 1, bet more on flop and 2, bet more on river |

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
Hand 1: You need to bet more on the flop. Bet between like 2/3 and the full pot. You're betting for value and if someone has a decent draw you're making the pot big enough that they might feel compelled to push. You want to get the money in on the flop because the turn often kills your action on these draw heavy multi-way boards.
Hand 2: You played ok. You could have bet a little more on the turn and river. Hand 3: I really hate the min-raise on the turn. Pot the turn and then 1/2 pot the river. If you don't bet your hands for value you're not going to get value. |

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
So even though everyone is folding to my smallish bets, I should bet more? Is the logic that larger bets will get more calls? Or is it just that when I do get called, I'll win more? I guess I'm confused on value bet sizing. In general should they be 60+% of the pot?

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
Hand 1) Fine. You might as well bet there, you're only getting paid if someone has an ace there anyway, so you might as well bet so someone with an ace can raise/call. It's just not a good flop. You want to bet because K/J/T/clubs are all scary cards on the turn, but you don't get paid unless an opponent has Ax. Since many will call raises with Ax, you should bet.
2) Not sure I'd bet the turn. As far as the river goes, bet more. You could even try something weird like pushing the river there. It's not a real draw-heavy board, and you have the nuts. Maybe you can get someone with two pair, a set, or even top pair to call a push there. I mean, MP2's range can include a lot of hands that would have trouble folding the river. Maybe he'd just think you were bluffing and call light. There aren't many drawing hands he can have on that board, especially because you already have the one draw that got there (and 53 got there too, and will call a push). I don't feel like doing the math exactly, but my value bet would about 300, and pushing would be about 1800, so if you push is getting called at least 1/6 as often as a value bet, it might be more profitable. But at least bet 250-300. At the least. 3) Turn minraise is so bad. You can afford to raise there, and raise more. You give away your hand is strong with that raise while getting basically 0 value for it. You need to build the pot there, and Kx/Qx probably won't fold, Ax/Tx might not fold a draw, KQ, KJ, KT, QT, J9, etc. will all keep going here. With that many very reasonable hands you can be up against, you can afford to bet hard because you will get called so often. I'd just lead the turn for about pot, hopefully building a nice pot for bet into again on the river. Value bet sizing should usually be around a minimum of 2/3-3/4 pot, possibly more depending on the texture of the board and likelihood you will get called by a wide range of hands. |

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
Betting too small is simply giving correct odds for people to draw out on you. Specially on the first hand. If nobody has clubs and nobody has an A, then you're just not getting paid. At least make the clubs and the A pay a price for seeing a turn. Because with a bigger pot on the turn, you're now capable of extracting far more on each street (and eventually getting your villains pot committed). Also nothing screams monster like min bets.

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
Hand 1:
Bet 1400 on the flop Hand 2: Bet 275 on the turn or check the turn, I probably check Bet 400-500 on the river Hand 3: I hope that this is a joke. Seriously, wow, min check raise? Wow. just wow. Lead turn for 100. Bet full pot on the river |

Re: Help me play these monsters better.
Marc,
Sometimes when you have a monster you will not get paid off regardless because of what villain's hand is. What you need to try and do is maximize value when they do have hands they can call so you need to make bigger bets.(like close to pot) |
