Chip design suggestions

my buddy ordered one set with his fpps on stars from pokerchips.com (see link below) he is ordering a second chip set. for some of the chips, he's thinking of having pics of a king, queen, and jack on 3 diff chips. what other ideas can you suggest?

i have thought of a royal flush, suicide king, las vegas sign.

No ones? A $10 chip is useless if you have fives.

Otherwise, they look ok. They would look better if the inserts were shaded with the chip color or embellished a little.

A couple of things:
get rid of the 10s and make 1s instead (why have 5s and 10s??)

It feels a little too Lucky Charms to me with the horseshoe and the leprechaun/joker

I think they look kinda fine. However, I would suggest to be aware of continuity. These are a lot of symbols. Some of them are suits (card-related), and some are common talismans (luck-related). Personally, I would choose one relation and stick with it. Also, there is no relation between value of chips (that is, the denomination) and the symbol. I think, if you want to stick to suits, for example, you might want to make the clubs $1, diamonds $5, hearts $100, and spades $500/$1000.
What I'm trying to say here is, don't make the designs so loose. Get a kinda tight concept and stick to it, or vary it. Continuity, conceptual variation and repetition is what makes something look balanced and appealing.

Also, to agree with what was mentioned above already, get rid of the 10s. A player can bet 10 easily by using two 5s. Get 1s instead.

Oh, btw, what about a personal touch, like, initials of a name or something. Or you can come up with a name for your cardroom ("Jack's Place",or "Miller's Saloon", or "Rat Pack Poker", or "Rounder's Circle", or "Flying Circus", "Romans", "The River is a Jerk", "Snowmen's Fridge Poker", "Maverick's Basement", "Joe's Farm", "Me and my Family Play Poker"... Get a (personal) theme and play with it. Symbols and colors will come a lot easier if you have something that you can copy... er, I mean relate to. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

Take the NexGen "Bee" design for example: 8 bees. 8 being the number of luck in Japan, and bees being a symbol for skill. That makes it luck and skill: two components of poker. Try to think about your own label in kind of this way.

Hey, thanks for all of comments. I'm the one who designed these and my buddy posted this w/o telling me. Although I would not have stopped her...

Anyway, for the legit question everyone is asking...why the 10s? Well, I only get 600 chips. I wanted to play 5/10; 10/20 cash games as well as tourneys. I know they techinically are not needed. But I needed them just to be able to play the cash games I plan on playing. If I did not have any tens, I would not be able to make up the difference in 5s.

For me the concept was poker. (I actually thought it was too luck charmish...all I need is a blue moon, right? lol) I consider the joker and suits to be strongly related. I was going to go with the suicide king as the other chip, but decided on the horseshoe.

But I am creating a 5K chip as well as $1 and 50 cent ones now. 5K will either be a queen or queen's crown. The $1 will be the king. The 50 cent will be the jack.

One thing though, I do feel as if there is a strong relationship between the suit and the denomination.

With a four color deck, the spade is black. Black in the casinos I play in is $100. Therefore the spade is $100. Club=green=$25; Heart=red=$5. I play at the Taj and there the $10 chip is blue.

I tried to keep the other colors standard as well for the denomination.

I'd go with the suicide king. Relates to the joker and the suits.

Good point! I would stick to the classic colors though. But the 4-color-deck-concept works as well.

I prefer standard colors also - when a redbird isn't red, it doesn't seem right.

Definitely make the $500 purple or dark red - the yellow color is common for $1000 chips, and since the denoms are so close it might be easier to make a mistake.

I don't like the designs on these, they look too generic to be honest. Personalizing them is the way to go, good or bad they'd look like yours.

But everything everyone has said...I've basically thought about. I like the simple design. I wanted to keep it standard wherever possible but didn't want a red chip for heart because I did not like how red on red looked. I thought there was enough red in that chip though, plus it has the $5 on there.

Personally, I'd have gone for the $1 chips instead of $10 ones, and stuck to standard colours, but no reason why you can't be different - you're not running a casino after all.

I like the design and I'm sure they'll turn out great.
