BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
Man dead in burning car at Blue Chip
August 24, 2007 Post-Tribunecorrespondent A 63-year-old man was found dead early Thursday inside his burning car in Michigan City outside Blue Chip Casino. So far, authorities are withholding his name until immediate family is reached and notified of his death. Authorities, though, did reveal the man is from Mishawaka and of Asian descent. An official ruling on cause and manner of death has not been made but clues might be contained on papers written in Korean recovered outside the charred vehicle, said LaPorte County Deputy Coroner Mark Huffman. Huffman said it appears the papers were intentionally placed in plastic to keep them from getting wet. "The police department is going to get them translated,'' said Huffman. According to police, firefighters were first dispatched at 3:45 a.m. on a report of a vehicle fire outside the riverboat off U.S. 12 on Michigan City's east side. The man was found deceased in the driver's seat as firefighters were attempting to put out the flames shooting from inside the car in the casino parking lot, police said. Huffman said some type of an accelerant "probably gasoline'' was detected in the vehicle. A gas can was also recovered from the car, according to Huffman. Huffman speculated the man could have taken his life but emphasized it's still too early in the investigation to make an official ruling. He hopes any surveillance video that Blue Chip Casino might have is helpful in determining exactly what transpired. "He did go out to the car and it caught fire. As to what happened, I don't know,'' Huffman said. Huffman said an autopsy will be performed but, so far, it's not known if drugs or alcohol were involved. |

Re: BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
I used to live in Michigan City, and — for proximity reaosns only — I used to play at Blue Chip.
In other words, I can't tell you how many times I wanted to set myself on fire in that parking lot. |

Re: BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
On a semi-related note:
As of this morning (8/31), the poker room at BC goes to a raked pot of 10% up to $5 + $1 badbeat on all NL games. I think the only timed rake game will be the 2/5 NL. |

Woooot! Now that's a good move, Ex. Is 2/5 going to remain $8 per half hour? And Bill is gone, right?

Re: BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
Update:
BC hasn't gone to pot rake yet Seems it hasn't been IGC approved yet, so as soon as that goes through (and who knows how long that will be) we will be doing raked on 1/2 NL + bad beat jp. Alot of people were dissappointed INCLUDING the dealers there. But in a short time I guess.. 2/5 will stay the same I believe with timed rake. Bill has been gone for a while now. Also, we have been spreading more variety lately which is nice. Last week we had a 3/6 HO game going which actually lasted all day (like tuesday or wed). Last night we had two 1/2NL games, two 3/6LHE games, a 2-10 7 stud game, and a 5-10 LHE game. I think the 7 card changed to a HOSE game though in the evening. And I was told friday night they had a 7 stud NL game going among other things. So...raked NL is coming soon, tournaments are coming soon (chips are ordered is what we have been told), and a good variety of games are getting opened up and actually staying open (more so on the weekends though). |

Re: BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
Happens way more than people realize. I used to go to Turning Stone back when they had the good single blackjack game. There was a kid going to college that fall. His parents gave him his tuition money in one shot. He lost it all at TS and killed himself. I used to occasionally play with another regular who lost heavily and consistently. One afternoon he went home and killed himself with a shotgun blast to his stomach. Turns out he was embezzling the money. TS also held the paper on the homes of numerous degenerates who lost everything gambling. I was at Harrahs in Shreveport one time, outside on the deck watching the water moccasins on the concrete. After a few minutes I noticed a lot of commotion on the bridge over the Red River behind the casino. Guy had just jumped. They found his body the next day. Someone standing there summed it up nicely.."Just because of debt. Jesus Christ." In twelve years of traveling to casinos around the country, I've seen more. These were just the early ones.

This doesn't really surprise me because I have seen plenty of games where the players prefer a heavy rake to a reasonable time collection. |

Re: BLUE CHIP, INDIANA SUICIDE?
BC has been open for some time now...years! And they don't have tournaments because they don't have chips??
You think now that Four Winds added a poker room w/tournaments they decided to have them? Please....I hate when places give lame excuses. The truth is they never had to have tournaments....now the place is dying and suddenly they want "take care of the players". 10% rake up to $5 + $1 jackpot....gee thanks! |
