Need help with my river play ( live 1/2).
Just finished playing live $1/2. I didn't do so hot. Two hands bother me. I am questioning my river play on both, although comments on all streets are welcome.
Hand 1. Third hand on a new table. Of note, I showed down the first hand I was dealt which was AQ suited UTG. On that hand I raised pf, made a c-bet which was called, then went check/check and lost against a pair of sixes. Dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on button. pf two limpers, I raise to $12, SB and BB fold, both limpers call. Flop Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] checked to me and I check Turn 10[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] checked to me, and I bet out $25, one limper calls River J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] limper bets $20, what's my play? Second hand: At this time I'm down to $125 of my second buy-in having just lost $70 when I folded an overpair on the river on a fairly safe board to what I believe to have been either two pair or a set (I have vowed not to go broke with just a pair). All relevant players have me covered. The villian in this hand is who I just folded to. Dealt 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]10[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in BB pf 4 limpers, small blind completes, I check. flop (6 players) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] First limper bets $10, one fold, two more calls, SB folds, I call. Turn (four players) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, planning to check/raise, but checked around River (four players) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I bet $20, one fold, I'm mini-raised to $45, folded to me. What's my move? |

Re: Need help with my river play ( live 1/2).
Hand with ak I make it like 50 or so on the river.
Not going broke with one pair hands is a leak. Easy push in hand 2. |

Re: Need help with my river play ( live 1/2).
Which casino is this?
In my live experience, your overpair hand was probably good. People will bet with anything. Hand 1 a read would help. I'm raising here. Villain probably has K or 8. Trips may play this way as well. If he shows a boat then oh well. Hand 2 I push. Only hand you lose to is KT. With these donkeys, their range is much larger. TP, 2 pair, even sets. Get your money in there. BTW why would you c/r turn? If anything raise the flop. |

Re: Need help with my river play ( live 1/2).
Harrah's St. Louis.
I would c/r turn to make the A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] pay big to see the river. I did not bet the flop since I was way out of position and want to see the turn as cheap as possible. As for c/r the flop, I do not want to fold people out as flush draws play best multiway. Also, no donkeys (except me?) at the table. |

Re: Need help with my river play ( live 1/2).
Hand #1 Call on the river - You don't have enough information / history to justify squeaking out any extra value while in turn reopening the betting.
Hand #2 You need to lead this flop. If you check call this flop then you need to lead the turn. As played - on the river with no reads etc. - just call - this may seem weak, but the way the hand came down I think it's the best choice. |

What I did
On hand 1 I raised river to $60. The bettor pushed. I had $70 behind and was covered. The pot was ~$276. I figured I was better than 1:4 to win, thinking KQ, AQ, KJ, KT, were all still good possibilities for my opponent to be holding. I called. Flame away.
Hand 2. The re-raise scared me. I could not fold this hand, so I just called. Flame away. |

Re: What I did
2nd hand I shove river. It's only $70ish more for him to call and he probably will/did with 2 pair or K10.
I think long-term you get called more often by weaker hands than you get beaten by higher flushes. |

Re: What I did
Now that I can see the suits, first hand I shove, second hand I shove.
