Re: NO LIMIT cash games.........IOWA???
Meskwaki (Tama)
Prarie Meadows (Des Moines) Dubuque Greyhound Track Riverside (South of Iowa City) - 2-5 only Horseshoe??? (not sure of the name, but in Council Bluffs) Isle of Capri (Davenport) - only spreads 2-5 on weekends These are the ones I've played at. All are pretty much confined to 1-2 and 2-5, except on rare occassions when you can find a bigger game going (5-10) at Riverside, Prarie Meadows, or Council Bluffs. Games are usuallly pretty short stacked, a mixture of okay older guys (lags) and young kids who are too tight but can't fold top pair and maniacs who quickly lose their 40BB buyin. Most casinos offer a Bad Beat Jackpot (exception Tama, I think). Rake is 3+1 or 4+1. Games definitely beatable, people usually friendly. |

Re: NO LIMIT cash games.........IOWA???
Horseshoe is in Council Bluffs. They have 1/2 and 2/5 NL. Games are usually pretty soft. Rake is 10% up to 5 bucks which is pretty terrible. No smoking in the poker room. I doubt you can smoke at these other joints either but I don't know for sure.

Re: NO LIMIT cash games.........IOWA???
No smoking at any of those card rooms, Tama was the last to allow smoking and they banned it in December of 2003.
The 2/5 at Prairie Meadows used to have $200 max buyin, not sure what it is now. The last time I was at PM, they had some 1-2 games running $100 min/max buyin and another with a $300 max, it was fun. They also had a fun 1-2 PL HO game that was also quite festive. I havent heard a lot about the 5-10 games but they are all PL (at least Tama, PM, Riverside) and will normally include Omaha as well, I would advise calling those three rooms if you want to play that high as they will normally tell you what nights they have been running it on within the last two weeks This is also summer in Iowa, people get busier and the poker action slows a bit, the winter is the true goldmine Also Isle of Capri is opening July 1st (or so they say) in Waterloo but rumor is that the poker room is delayed and probably wont open until late July (i am only disappointed as i will be in iowa in mid-july and wont be able to gamboool) |

Re: NO LIMIT cash games.........IOWA???
In addition to the ones already mentioned, the Argosy Casino (river boat) in Sioux City usually has 1/2 and 2/5 tables going in the evening.
Also, Prairie Rose Casino in Emmetsburg, IA usually has a 1/2 game most evenings. Sometimes it's 3/6 Limit depending on what everyone at the tables wants to play. Jiggs77 |

Re: NO LIMIT cash games.........IOWA???
FH,
When I played there a couple months ago, they played No Limit. They only have one table going and it was in the middle of the casino. It depends on what everyone wants to play. The game started at about 6:30 pm and there was a waiting list when I left a few hours later. They did allow smoking at the table and people even had their racks on the table. Keep in mind, this was a few months ago. Good Luck! Jiggs77 |
