They are amazing live, I lived in Portland, OR for a awhile and had the pleasure of seeing them 4-5 times. I saw them open for the Pixies outdoor in Bend,OR. also saw them in Portland at the Rosemont theatre when closing the show they destroyed a bunch of equipment, total unexpected and brilliant. The Tain is a brilliant track as well.

The album opens and closes beautifully. Not sure about it being revolutionary [note: I'm pretty new to music], but I think it is the best thing I have heard in 2006 so far. I also have to go back and listen to the lyrics carefully. Its based on a Japanese tale, which is another reason I really like this band, they have some quirky ideas that appeal to me.

i had no idea there was a new album out already or even in progress. i am a gigantic decemberists fan. castaways and cutouts is a personal favorite of mine for various reasons.

where can i find it?

Though I'm not as down on 2006 as many of you, (I thought the Islands album was great, and Everything All the Time was good as well) I'm really looking forward to this. The shins album looks like its been pushed back to January so hopefully this will tide me over.

I really couldn't get into the last Decemberists album. I just downloaded this new album and on first listen it was interesting but not that great. I'll give it a few more listens. I also couldn't stand the Band of Horses album that you guys love so much, so I might just be weird like that.
