How is techno music made?

Since it doesn't seem like you need a recording studio (outside of voice recordings), I would imagine its just some really cool software and a decent computer that generates most of the good techno music.

So does anyone know what software(s) it is?

There are various programs out there. Cakewalk makes great software for music recording and such. Check them out.

There's a few good sequencers of note; your local music store should have them. Cakewalk is good. Back when I was doing this, I used Logic.

For synthesis, either hardware or something like Reason, which does a bunch of analog and digital synth effects. I had hardware.

I've been out of the market for a while, tho, so just pick up a few issues of Keyboard and/or Electronic Musician and see what's up.

From what I've heard a lot of producers also use Pro Tools
