Im not dissing ActionJeff either, I am sure if he put 100% into Cash Game HU, he'd be really good maybe top 20. Hell maybe he is top 20. All my knowledge is based on limited post reading and railing.

and if I had to pick 1 random person off that top 10 or 25 or 20 list or w/e to match up vs DN (live), I would always put my money on the random online player. Mainly b/c these guys own so hard online (vs competent opponents)

That said, guys match up differently (different strategies etc..) and im guessing ( I would bet money on it) there are guys in this list that DN would beat over long run.

Keep in mind, I doubt Dan plays as much of a HU specialist as any of these guys in NLHE.

I mean, to balnace it DN should get to play these guys in tripple draw or 7stud, or w/e game he considers his specialy.

Bottom line; online poker is like a generator of good players. Youo wont last long if your not good. This si why ever few months we get new top players. And teh field gets harder and harder. The creme of the crop remains, while losers slowly wither away.

this is all totlaly off topic from OP, but w/e.

I'll be god damned if I'm not one of the top 100 NLHE poker players in the world, and I'm probably not one of the top 50 internet players.

Yea, well, we already knew you were damned anyways

Dont really want to derail the argument, but Negreanu is a way more competant HU player than most give him credit for - whilst most of the "big name" online players would have a good shot if not be favourite in their fave game of NLHE, if these players dont have a huge amount of HU experience their edge deminishes to the point where they probably dont have one.

In fact, DN is a freak of circumstance considering the amount of time he has put into HU play in the past behind closed doors - most live players are totally clueless about HU play. He would be the worst random big name live player to have such a match up, except a small number of NLHE specialist players like Greenstein.

Also - its true that online poker (especially at the top) right now is the ultimate test of poker skill because the field is constantly improving overall.

I was thinking about it when watching the current Taylor video where he mentioned that he didnt play at party when it was at its peak in softness - whilst he undoubtably missed out on a lot of money, it meant he was way ahead of the curve in being able to beat the other good players and if he didnt start Cardrunners and concentrated on poker instead he would undoubtably be one of the best in the biggest games online (not that 10/25 and up is shabby).

I think the answer to all this is simple. Online guys see a lot more hands and are generally just all around smarter than the old school love pros. IF and a big IF, the live guys are better at live deep stacked poker, then it would just be a matter of the top online NL pros dedicating themselves to the nuances of deep stacked play and then it would be all over for the live guys. And obviously with 100bb stacks it's not even close. The online guys would destroy the live guys.

[/ QUOTE ]

and you don't think the opposite is true for the live guys? you don't think if they farted around with 100bb stacks for a few months, they couldn't torture the online games? if so, why not?

[/ QUOTE ]

Bob,

I think the skill set is slightly different for live. You can get by with some fundamental mistakes and make up for with your superior reads. Whereas online this is much harder to overcome.

I do think it would take a couple of years for online players to get as good as live in a live setting.

Someone posted a youtube link where Daniel N discusses this very thing. I pretty much agreed with everything he said. perhaps someone can re link?
