Default Question\'s about working in London

Mods delete if this isn't worthy of it’s own thread, I couldn’t find an “ask me about the UK” type thread to post in

I plan to work in London starting in April 08 for at least 6 months. I am an Australian with an Irish passport so VISA is not an issue.

I hear there will be a lot of labouring work next year as the building for the Olympic Games starts. I figure labouring would be perfect break from the office environment i have worked in the last 6+ years and would perhaps be easier to get time off for travelling. In Australia labouring wages are pretty good, is this the same in London? I had a drunken convo with an English guy recently, who told me that an influx of eastern European immigrants may lower labouring wages, am i better off just getting an office job?
