I don't especially like the river bet.

How likely is it that either villain will fold a better high hand than yours? Do you get called by a hand you can beat?

Contrariwise, you are reasonably likely to get called if either of them make a low. You are likely to get raised if either of them make a strong low like a six or a smooth seven. And of course you are likely to get raised if either of them makes their flushes.

(The good news is that you scored when you got the ace to fold on fourth street. The pot is large enough to justify a call there.)

The raise on third street is on the aggressive side but fine. Fourth is good. Fifth is a little scary but I think betting is fine. No one raised, so you're probably still in good shape on sixth. As Alan points out, the river bet wasn't a good idea. No one is folding much of anything that you want them to fold, and you're not likely to get called by one pair.

can this fall into the same sort of category as a bet fold in LHE, or is that just spew in this form?

On the river, you were probably scooping anyway.

Bet/fold is a bad idea in stud h/l when the raise could easily come from a made low; you have to be sure that your opponent has a one way hand (which is pretty much only when they have 3+ high cards up) to bet/fold.

Also, there's no point in bet/fold when the same hands that would call are better than yours and you would beat the hands that fold. In stud h/l, you also run the risk of getting raised by a low hand, even when the two small pair that beats you wouldn't raise. Finally, bet/folding on the river encourages people to bet at you without a good hand, and I really hate that.

Ya, I think I am starting to get the value side of 6th and 7th now. I need to become ok with checking.....that's a hard pill to swallow

I like the advice though, thanks.

The LHE crowd overdoes the bet-and-fold-to-a-raise thing. If you never used it in stud/8, you wouldn't be giving up much. In any case, this isn't a spot for it. Checking and calling costs the same as betting and folding, and you don't have to abandon your shot at the pot.
