Rappers and their Mommys
Hi all,
I got a question for all those rapxprts out there in OOT. I was going through my itunes and listening to some nas, tupac, etc. and realized there is a pretty common theme for rappers: they like to write songs about their moms. Nas' 'Dance' is about how he longs for one more dance with his momma. 2pac writes a letter to his momma in 'Dear Momma'. Eminem bitches out his mom in 'Cleaning Out the Closet'. I don't really think this theme shows up in any other type of music. So why is it such a phenomenon in rap to write about your mom? It seems kind of strange that these guys who put on such a front of being tough and balla, etc., etc. write entire songs about a subject matter that is generally considered a little sissy. Enlighten me please. GW |

It's the only subject where a rapper can be "sensitive" while still keepin' it street.

Re: Rappers and their Mommys
Because a lot of rappers were raised only by their moms, and they're grateful.
How hard is this stuff to figure out? |

Re: Rappers and their Mommys
Most don't have fathers so their mother raised them alone. While you hear about it frequently in hiphop, talk to anyone who was raised just by their mother and they will have strong feelings about their mother.

[/ QUOTE ] I just thought it was an interesting question, easy there internet cowboy. I guess if you want to get into the causality, rappers are more likely to be lower income and lower income people are far more likely to be raised by single moms. |

I didn't call you a moron, I didn't tell you to think for 10 seconds, or to actually listen to the songs and put the pieces together for yourself. I didn't even say 'terrible thread'. That was easy. |
