Erstad is horrible. One of the worst regulars in baseball.

He'll only be 34. It seems like he should at least be a servicable 4th outfielder/backup first basemen.

if you want him to be the 25th guy, ok, but there are guys in Pawtucket who are as good as Erstad. his 3 year average:

.247 / .304 / .344

and he is in decline

EPSN's Buster O - He has been a shortstop and the Cardinals need a shortstop, and Eckstein may end up returning to St. Louis. But Eckstein could also be, for a big-market contending club, a very interesting buy as a super utility player, because he can play second base, and perhaps even third base, along with some shortstop.

Fire Joe Morgan response - David Eckstein playing third base would be amazing. I would love to see that. If Jacoby Ellsbury hit a ball down the line to David Eckstein and Eck had to backhand it and throw from foul territory, by the time the ball landed in the first baseman's glove Ellsbury would be sitting on the bench after his inside-the-park little-league HR and Kevin Youkilis would be at the plate with a count of 2-0. Wow - that seems like a very good deal for the Sox considering all the experts were suggesting 4 @ 60 mil.

I have a feeling all those rumors of 4 teams offering 4 years between 55 and 60 million was bs coming from the agent. When Atlanta was contacted the said they made no offer, same with the Dodgers and the Yankees backed out after Arod came back to the fold.
