GIANT Royal Hold\'em pot (First Post, please be nice)
Hello, fellow twoplustwo.com poker lovers!
I'm 22 years old, and I have been reading this site (and BBV especially) for a couple of months now. I thought it would be great if I finally signed up and started contributing to this awesome community! I don't play poker online because I have a couple of friends (who are really good at computers) who told me that most of the sites are rigged to deal set-up hands, so that lots of action and rake happens. BUT, I do play with my friends a LOT, and sit at a regular live game that runs at the community center in my town ($1/$2 limit on weekdays, $1/$2 NO limit on weekends). Here is a recent picture of me owning the table (as usual ) Anyways, to the point of my first post here: I always like to play Royal Hold'em live, when I can, before a larger Regular Hold'em game (like they have on the weekends) because I feel that it gives you a quick boost of confidence, and prepare you for being able to lay down some big hands. Like this one for example: 6-Handed, $1/$2 NO Limit Royal Hold'em Live I am in the small blind and am dealt K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Everybody just calls around to me, and I RAISE the pot by $4. Everybody calls that raise. The flop comes K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I'm like: "YES!" (but in my head, of course), and after it checks around to me I bet $8. Everyone folds (they knew their aces and queens were no good), except for this one guy in middle position who RE-raises to $24. Hmmmmm... well, at this point I figure it's either going to be a chop, or he's got jack/jack for the nut quads. So I call, expecting to just get my money back, and hopefully not get coolered. The turn comes down 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] -- no problems there! I check, and he checks (I'm figuring at this point that he's trapping, and I make a mental note to fold to any bet on the river). EXCEPT... dun-duh-duh-daaahhhh!!! The river comes down K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], and I have made the over-nut quads. I check to trap, and then he goes "I'm all in." and I VERY quickly call, flipping my cowboys over for the whole crowd to see. They're BLOWN away. The guy in middle position flips over his jacks and says: "I always get rivered like that. What a pile of [censored]." So in the end, I took down an $80 pot (best I've had in a long time at that game), and proceed to buy beers for all of my friends. Thanks for reading, guys -- I look forward to seeing you around on the forums! |
