Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
[ QUOTE ]
Personal pet-peeve/nit-pick: Your argument would have a slightly better chance of appearing credible if you didn't refer to your favorite team as "we" Unless you play for them or are a member of the Rockies front-office or something then I don't think they should be a "we" for you. [/ QUOTE ] People nit-picking on this is my personal pet peeve. If you are emotionally invested in something I think it is fully acceptable to use the term we. I don't use it as much with the Rockies, but with the Broncos I always refer to it as we. I feel anything I've invested time, energy, and emotions into since the day I was born is a part of me. The team is part of the way I identify myself and we is perfectly acceptable. |

Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
In regards to this game.. I feel the Rockies are much better 1-8. But Fogg has me extremely nervous, and I am not excited that he is pitching. The pitching battle definitely favors SD here.

Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
I think the Rockies will win, but as a Phillies fan, I would much rather play SD, especially if we only have to face Peavy once in the series.
Regardless for a variety of reasons I will find it hard to root against the Rockies tomorrow.... they are just so much more likable than SD. |

HOWEVER, your argument still isn't that hot: Not that I believe that the LV lines are always efficient 100% of the time or anything like that. But saying that the gamblors are playing into a suckers-bet by taking Peavy is kind of silly. Fogg has had 2 mediocre performances among his last 3. He is far from dominating: Sept 19 vs. LAD 5ip, 8h, 3er Sept 14 vs. FLA 5ip, 5h, 4er, 4bb, 3k He had a 4 game stretch from Aug 27 through Sept 14 in which he walked 14 batters in 22ip. Although he had 0 and 3 bb's in his last 2 starts so may be a little better now. Peavy otoh is one of the best starters in the game and has been pretty dominating in his last 4. Combined stats are 28.1ip, 17h, 6er, 6bb, 24k's. Yes, COL may very well win this game. But Peavy is pretty darned good and saying that SD is somehow a sucker's bet because the Pads offense is so badly depeleted or whatever is kind of silly. [/ QUOTE ] Okay, Bob, let's nitpick. I never said Fogg was dominating. Far from it. He'd be our #5 starter if Cook, Lopez, and Hirsh hadn't gone down. And yes, I say our, because I attend quite a few games (tomorrow will be my 9th this year), buy quite a bit of merchandise, and feel quite invested in the team. If you don't like it, that's your issues, not mine. Peavy is, naturally, the best pitcher in the NL. But the Padres were largely punchless (as a team) even before their recent injuries, the Rox bullpen is still the strongest in the NL since the break, and they only need to get 5-6 out of Fogg, tops. So yeah, calling it a "sucker bet" was probably a bit strong. But Helton hits .375 against Peavy, Atkins hits .333, Hawpe hits .429, and Matt Holliday hits .400 against Peavy. You still think the Rockies don't have much of a chance? |

Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
For what it's worth, I would have rather seen Morales start. But every arm is available, and if you've seen Fogg's last two starts on TV, every time he *had* to make a pitch, he did.

Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
I never said nor thought the Rockies didn't have much of a chance. I think they have a very good chance.
I put the Padres as something of a mild favorite in this game just because of Peavy of course which is also reflected in the LV line evidently. That isn't at all the same thing as saying they have no chance. |

The rockies have much bigger bats though. [/ QUOTE ] Only because one team plays in Coors and the other in Petco. The Rockies barely out OPS+'ed the Padres this year. |

Re: finally gonna have a tiebreaker game
Have any San Diego fans been complaining that Colorado only had to place against the Arizona JV squad on Sunday?
