However I wouldn’t give up on the idea, working in online poker for some years I know it’s possible to detect a perfect playing pattern with the use of a computer to prevent the use of bots even though they are pretty useless. So in theory it could be used for chess but proving it would be another problem.

Where are you getting this from? I've never heard of computers being used in this way to detect poker bots. Partypoker, etc. detect bots by looking for evidence on your computer, not by analyzing your play AFAIK. I don't think it would be possible to detect poker bots by analyzing their play. I think it would be much easier to detect chess bots by anayzing their play, but I'm not sure how feasible even that is.

The way most chess sites detect cheating is by looking at the programs running on your computer first, and if you don't have a chess computer running and they suspect you, they then look at the moves to determine if you cheated..

Most of the time this works, but if the person running the computer knows what he's doing, he can throw in 2nd and 3rd best moves in positions where it won't hurt that much, and this makes detecting a computer almost impossible.. To really do it right you need to be pretty good at chess, probably 2000+ level.

However a computer will never be able to comprehend the imperfect information in poker.

I am not sure what you mean by "comprehend", but the computer has the same information available as a human, so no theoretical disadvantage for the computer.

This article was pretty bad so dont worry about it appearing on some site of mine, with or without a link to whatever you are selling.

Well constructive criticism would have been nice, but ok. Quite simply in chess every foreseeable move/strategy can be presumed if you take the time to study the board, where as in poker there are parts of the equation left out, time they took, their whole cards, previous hands, style of play ect. Has any of the above changed during their session?

I write articles and post them on 2+2 because I enjoy or peoples views and a chance to improve my own writing and broaden my view.

Anyway thanks for everyone’s input.

Yea and its very easy and done all the time.
Many folks get kicked off of ICC for cheating and its really not that hard at all to tell a computer was playing.
But in general you are right it takes some combination of human skill and software but its doable.

Regarding the OP...

What are you really talking about?
Chess has its on universe online.

ICC

At any given time there are thousands of chess players online (Right now 1,700 with 17 Grandmaster and 39 International Masters). Playing for money is another matter and if it was going to be "created" it would grow out of ICC. Distance matches do occur but the internet is only a partial tool at best, moves are replayed and folks sit in front of a board in a public place in real time. This takes the whole cheating issue and puts it to bed.

Curtains runs the US Chess League website and that's a pretty solid example of a process that works.
US Chess League

Having played in tourney chess for 30+ years, I don't see any desire by myself or any chess player I know to jump to a "casino" chess format. Just wondering did you take any pictures at dinner?

Thanks for the post...

I'm talking about cash and no I'm afraid not. I was in a casino in Curacao and they were there for a tournament in which Jaan drawed 1st. Nice guys, I'm still in contact so if they come back yeah sure I could do with some for the blog.

IGM and sometime US Chess Champion Walter Browne is a prop player at the Oaks Club in Emeryville, California. I play with him all the time. There's nothing particularly eyebrow-raising about chess masters playing poker -- the money is so much better in poker than in chess.
