Shoot, I meant to comment on this too. Probably the one thing that sold me on these forums when I first signed up was opening a thread & seeing multiple, long responses in it from Greg Raymer. This was right after he'd won the main event. Even nowadays, there are some absolutely phenomenal poker players on here giving out free advice.

Fossilman responded to the very first post I made on 2+2 (a home tourney hand involving my AA vs. a buddy's QQ)). This was before he won the Main Event, but I quickly figured out that he was a very strong player, and as a newbie poker player and 2+2 poster, that really stuck with me.

Congrats. Good post.

What are one or two things you've learned that took you from "there" to "here"?

[/ QUOTE ]

1. The long run is really fing long.

2. As a coralary, when the game isn't fun or interesting, take some time off. Its nice to win money, but that should be secondary to playing well and having fun while doing it.

I'm trying to teach my girlfriend how to play, and I'm starting her by playing HULHE (I don't want her to turn into a passive nit). We play 10 BB freezeouts, and I've won like 150 bets in a row. I don't think she is having very much fun. I only run good for fake money, except in MicroHULHE.

Yeah I have to learn how to walk away from a table when the players are really, really SLOW to act. It drives me nuts. Playing patient, tough poker is difficult. Playing that way when there's two guys at the 3/6 table who take forever on every single decision they make is intolerable.
