I would second the plasma recommendation. I did weeks of research as well and unless you want to wait until August when Samsung comes out with 120hz LED backlit LCD's, then plasma will give you a significantly better picture. I went with Samsungs HPT-4264 which also comes in 50". The panasonics also get very good reviews. If money is no object, Pioneer is supposedly the best, but the differences are not as telling unless you spend a ton for their pro line. Let me know more details about usage, your preferences, and budget and I can give you more specific recommendations.

You'll never get an LCD in the 50" to 60" range for any reasonable price (if they even make them that big yet.) Get an Elite if price is no issue.

But he can get a high quality Samsung 50" Plasma for a little under $2000, whereas to get a good Samsung 52" LCD would cost $3000, so there is a big difference.

Samsung 52 LCD - $2950 http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT5265F-1...9598&sr=1-5

Samsung 50 Plasma - $1800 http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HPT5064-50...708&sr=1-1#

It all depends on tradeoffs and sacrifices, but I still think the Plasma is much better value and picture.

Can anybody comment about the issues that plasmas are supposed to have in high altitude areas? (Denver, specifically.) I've heard that in the mountains LCD's are a better choice.

If you have decided LCD, I would go with the Samsung 4665F (I think the right number). It is their best LCD and is the highest rated one in the category except maybe the Sony's that cost $2k more.
