Awesome Live Shows In Your Area
So, I'm planning on doing some travelling this summer around the country and want to see some good live music while I'm out. So I'd like people to post some local live bands in their area and the sound they have. I'll start:
Area: Minneapolis Band: God Johnson Sound: Funk/Rock hybrid, LOTS of jamming w/ great covers (Phish, Talking Heads, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith) |

Re: Awesome Live Shows In Your Area
Well if you know good local bands that would be best as they are typically cheaper, but any good regular shows big or not is kind of what I'm looking for.
FWIW Minneapolis has lots of good local bands, so I haven't heard a lot of local 'crap'. For instance, I know I'm gonna be in Boston to see All Mighty Senators, but I want to see more. This is going to be a US tour for me heading to the East coast from MN, going south and then west all the way to the coast. I'm planning on a 3 week road trip. Any good must sees? |

Re: Awesome Live Shows In Your Area
If you're hitting the East Coast, definitely make the trip to D.C. and hang out at Wolftrap on the lawn for a night. Pick a show:
http://www.wolftrap.org/performances/calendar.html#may Wolftrap is special in that it's a National Park, which means you can bring your own food and beverages into the show. Summer nights spent with a picnic on the lawn listening to live music are as good as it gets. I've heard it's unique among large venues that allow you to bring your own wine/liqour, and I've never heard of anywhere else that allows it (please feel free to add to the list). If you want a show recommendation, I cannot wait for July 9th - Pat McGee Band with Carbon Leaf and Stephen Kellog and the Sixers. Pat McGee puts on a nice live show, Carbon Leaf was my favorite band in college and is fantastic live, and while I've never seen Stephen Kellog live I really like the CD I have. Going to be a great night of music, wine and Popeyes fried chicken. |

July 21st The Wrens are gonna be in Austin Texas. Here's the venue: http://www.emosaustin.com/
cant imagine tickets being more than 15 bucks, and they're 1000000000xs better than any local band (I'm in the Northern VA area, every idiot with a guitar is "in a band") |
