Re: David Wells rumors
[ QUOTE ]
The Red Sox asked the Dodgers for Matt Kemp. Let's see where this goes. [/ QUOTE ] yeah and what are they going to give up for him? Kemp has gret potential to be a 900 OPS guy in any of the outfield positions. The Sox minor league system kinda sucks right now. |

Re: David Wells rumors
You're right, but the idea is the Dodgers are going to make a legitimate run at the World Series, so an arm like Boomer's goes up in value given the immediate need and Boomer's past playoff record.

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
Rhetorical Question: What will be more embarrassing for Boston's front office?
a) Florida overtakes San Diego for the NL wild card and makes the playoffs with their 15 million payroll while being led by ex Sox farmhands Annibel Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez or b) San Diego hangs on to win it led by ex Sox Assistant Kevin Towers who fleeced Theo in the Mirabelli for Bard and Cla Meredith trade. Conversation might have gone something like this: "Hey Kevin buddy, we're in a bind here. This Bard guy can't catch Wake's knuckler and Mirabelli's not doin much for guys, how about a swap, straight up." "Sure Theo, glad to help you out old buddy, but just so my owners don't think I'm showing my old boss favoritism, how bout throwin in that kid Cla Meredith." "One second Kev, let me check to see if he's on our 'untouchable" list. Nope, he's not, we got a deal." |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
a) Yes, this trade is ridiculous. I said so at the time of the trade and I am happy to be vindicated now.
b) Eh, whatever. Josh Bard is not good, and Kevin Towers is an idiot. This trade was not way out of hand. |

I hardly think winning the NL wildcard is an accomplishment that would embarass the Sox and their trades.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe not, but don't you think the Sox hieracrchy are embarassed at how just about every move they make seems to blow up in their collective faces. However they ship out, performs above or way above expectations and whoever they bring in, let me see how to word this, sucks. |

Yeah, I totally get your point on that one, and I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to make all of the "it was a good trade at the time" arguments.

Yeah, I totally get your point on that one, and I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to make all of the "it was a good trade at the time" arguments. [/ QUOTE ] On at least a couple of occasions, I thought the trades they made "looked" good. But although I'm a die hard fan, I'm not a real student of the game with regards to following the minor leaguers or even other players around the league. That's what our exalted front office is supposed to be doing. They're not supposed to let pitchers who have the stuff to throw no hitters in their rookie season to slip through the cracks for instance. I'm very frustrated with the Sox right now because as I look at it, it's not just this one "blown" season. Going forward, 2007 just does not look all that promising to me. |
