I don't know much about it but anything involving the word "androgyny" seems to be standard. A friend of mine wrote his senior thesis on Middlesex, and I could probably get you a copy if you PROMISE not to plagiarize at all and to just use if it for ideas. He's like the smartest literature person I know so it would be really good.
