lester optioned to pawtucket

glad they did that, i thought it was gonna get ugly if he was in the majors

I am really glad too. Tavarez has been a very good number 5 and kept them in the game against more than his share of #1's from other teams. I hope they keep Lester down until he can throw more strikes with his breaking pitches which should allow him to pitch deeper once he does come up (even if its next season).

very good #5? his win probability added (wpa) is second worst on the team, only behind our auto-out leadoff hitter.

5.25 era, 6k/9:3.5bb/9, with basically 0 upside. i'd find someone that values his "keep them in the game ability" and dish him off a.s.a.p., and call up lester. at the very least he can give you the same numbers, and its not like they'd be rushing a 20 y.o. prospect

lester's career AAA K/bb is worse than 2-1. he was bad last year in the majors, he was lucky to have an ERA under 5. he's gonna get hammered in the majors at this point. he's worse than tavarez.

well i'm going to have to disagree, but having lester stay in the minors for another month isn't something that will piss me off (like say, batting lugo/crisp 1/2)

the fact that tavarez is pitching about as well as he can, and is still one of the worst performers on the team doesn't say much about his upside. lester at least has a chance to be dominant.

even if he's replaced by gabbard, my ultimate goal here is just to see tavarez out of the rotation.

He was on the ML roster collecting ML service time and money while rehabbing.

thanks be to christ

now that drew looks like he might be able to hit a wiffle ball with a tennis racket, i see no reason not to have it look like:

pedroia
youk
tiz
manny
drew
lowell
tek
lugo
crisp

...or something along those lines.

or leadoff for that matter, he gets on base and is a good baserunner. i really like hitting youk in front of papi, and hitting drew leadoff gives us good L-R-L-R alternation. if lowell continues to fall off you can hit tek 5th to keep the alternating lineup going.
