Tin foil is used for a couple reasons. One, it blocks almost all sun light from getting in. Two, it reflects a lot of the radiation back out.

Black garbage bags will block a lot of the light. But, they will not have much of an effect on keeping your room from heating up. Not if they are inside. The radiation is still getting into the room, still heating the bags, which then convect heat to the rest of the room.

If you want to use passive controls in your house on windows to control heat, you use shutters (outside) in the summer and curtains/blinds in the winter.

Maybe it was the particular bags my brother was using, but they actually kept his room really cool and blocked nearly all the light. He used heavy duty contractor bags which are gigantic and made of a much thicker material than a standard trash bag. I think that they insulated the room because they don't stick to themselves which left dead air in the bag making it an effective insulator.

95% of my poker friends are better, work harder, and make more money than I do.

I feel this way too, but alot of it is the nature of the game, and the group of friends we happen to have. Someone is always running hotter and making more. And, the odds of our ragtag group of sng friends reaching the level of success they have was pretty low. It's been a remarkable ride. If you look at the group as a whole though, you and I are likely closer to the middle than the bottom.

where do I fit in?

I think this hand sums up August pretty well -

Pre-flop: Hero is Button with 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (t3560, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: t3560)
Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
River: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Villain shows J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

If August has been full of missing information then... yes.
