Anibal Sanchez was a top prospect. He's got better stuff than Lester and is pretty highly regarded.

The next 23 games (after today's game at Oakland) will be huge for the Sox. 17 at home and 6 away against the two worst teams in the AL (OK, so TB usually plays them well). I think they have a chance to put some distance between them and the Yankees/Blue Jays.

Damn Ortiz. He seems to handle Scot Shields pretty well. I wonder how Lackey will do against you guys tomorrow. So far a pretty entertaining series.

RHP Matt Clement, on the 15-day DL since June 15 with a shoulder strain, threw 60 to 65 pitches on a side session and felt no pain. ``He'll do it again Monday,'' Boston manager Terry Francona said. ... Winning pitcher Julian Tavarez, frequently booed lately by the Fenway Park fans, said: ``The win goes to Manny (Ramirez) and (David) Ortiz. I just went out to the mound to get my boos.'' Ramirez threw out a runner at the plate in the top of the 11th before Ortiz won it with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. ... The Red Sox have won 21 of their last 27 games at Fenway. ... Trot Nixon collected his 900th career hit with a fourth-inning single. ... Ortiz was just 2-for-13 before going 4-for-5 with a solo homer and four RBIs.
