Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Q&A Thread

[ QUOTE ] Any chance you break the trend and eventually make an audio version? [/ QUOTE ] Most books that require serious study would not be useful in an audio version. [/ QUOTE ] Acutally people's learning styles differ. Some people do better listening (even when the material is complicated) than reading. That's why some people suggested adapting Edward's DVDs for mp3/Ipod usage. Some people even learn best kinesthetically; that is, they need something hands on. Such people would learn best by sitting down with a deck of cards and physically playing out the examples. |

It's always good to have different treatments of material regardless of preferences...it certainly doesn't hurt. It's also a nice change of pace if all you do is read books. |

For some people, one way of learning is so heavily favored that they become dismissive of other modes. |

[/ QUOTE ] But you cant read while driving a car or going for a jog. You can read while sitting on the sh*tter. Listening to an audio version of it would not only recap what you have read from the book version but would also assist you in thinking about poker in more depth by using your imagination. It can get you to "think more" about poker. |

[ QUOTE ] Why would you choose that over a limit game? [/ QUOTE ] I think it's easier to win at small stakes NL games than small stakes limit games... and I think you can build a bankroll faster at low levels playing NL. As you move up, I think the two games converge and maybe invert at high levels. But I think it's easier to take someone from zero to $50/hour (multitabling online) or so in NL than in limit. That's just my opinion, though... I could see someone arguing it. [/ QUOTE ] It'd be interesting to get into. But I'll wait for another time. b |

[ QUOTE ] Has anyone besides you and David reviewed the manuscript? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, several of the HSNL posters have looked at it. [/ QUOTE ] Care to say whom? Anyway, thanks for letting the cat out of the bag, Ed... The only good thing that could come of this is that poor players might start to buy in for the max! I'm kidding, obviously--I'll be buying this junx as soon as it's available. --GA |

Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Q&A Thread
I think people can learn a lot by listening but think about the 2+2 books like SSHE. Where the pot size, position cards, community cards, stack size (in NL), type of player etc are all right there for you to study a hand. Doing this by speaking it would be very hard to describe all the info and would not work by audio but will work with DVDs, books.
Authough audio about general NL concepts would be cool I don't know if it would sell well. Just read the NL book when it comes out and take it easy on Ed with all the questions. We will get all the answers and more when the book is available. |
