"Elitist" is without question the most incorrectly used insult on these forums.

[/ QUOTE ]

Great thread but how is this not an appropriate insult for ElD?

Main Entry:
elit·ism

Function:
noun
Date:
1947

1: leadership or rule by an elite

2: the selectivity of the elite; especially : snobbery <elitism in choosing new members>

3: consciousness of being or belonging to an elite

— elit·ist \-ˈlē-tist\ noun or adjective

I am not smart and would not be selected to repopulate the earth like in Moonraker so I might be missing something.

You shouldn't be so hard on Daliman, my alcohol diversion program instructor also believed that .08 BAC = 8% alcohol in blood stream.

He was drunk LDO

LF,

The question was not whether or not I'm elitist.

I don't know what the others have said and I'm late to the show, but I'll inject this thread with what I know, which may not even be the answer.

When someone has blood drawn for the BAC test, the results come back as a number like 149.5. That translates to a BAC of .1495. I know this because I arrested a guy for a DUI related crash and had to get a search warrant for his lab results, where I then contacted the lab tech to ask him what the 149.5 meant.

And from my understanding, it was always .08%, not 8%.

[/ QUOTE ]

Incorrect. The 149.5 is 149.5mg/dL, and this is not interchangeable with BAC by %.

[/ QUOTE ]

Could you elaborate on this? Do you know what the conversion is?

From a google saerch:

Blood alcohol levels are coded in terms of percent by volume (serum %). Percent byvolume equals the milligrams of alcohol found per deciliter of blood (mg/dl) divided by 1000. For example, a level of 30 mg/dl would be 0.03% alcohol. How labs report blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) varies. Many use the format used here (serum %), while others report BAC as milligrams of alcohol per deciliter of blood (mg/dl)—as in 30 mg/dl. To convert mg/dl results to serum % results, divide by 1,000.

So i'm not sure what his point is.

LF,

I'm still confused. Honestly this is 90% curiosity and only 10% prickishness. I really am not an Engrish major, my use/misuse of commas should make that apparent.

Ok, he called you an elitist after you insulted his intelligence right?

elitism --> snobbery

snob:

3 a: one who tends to rebuff, avoid, or ignore those regarded as inferior b: one who has an offensive air of superiority in matters of knowledge or taste

b might be appropriate as well

kk,

"question - if my blood was colt 45, would i pass a breathalyzer?"

Looks like you'd be OK.

"Colt 45 Colt 45 Malt Liquor 6.0"

"All 50 states and the District of Columbia have per se laws defining it as a crime to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above a proscribed level, 0.08 percent."

kipin,

Do you think your alcohol diversion program instructor was an idiot?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, to her defense she was filling in for the normal instructor who I guess was on vacation.

I didn't get the general feeling that she was a total idiot however, just kind of ignorant to a couple things.
