spook, Im embarrased of failing to lift a weight in front of a bunch of ppl. [/ QUOTE ] Do you think that there might be other people in the gym with that same fear? There are. And I had that same fear, and everyone who walks into a gym had it at. But they went. 80% or so of gym memberships go unused. I had to sign up for a weight training class in college to start going consistently, even though I worked out in high school. And it will be awkward going into a new gym next month after I move. But then it wont be. Most people there are just as afraid of you, as you are of them. And some of them want to help you. Start slow, and if you can get help, a lot of people like to be asked. |

[ QUOTE ]
spook, Im embarrased of failing to lift a weight in front of a bunch of ppl. [/ QUOTE ] fine... [censored] the gym then for now. go out and get a set of dumbells/barbells and jump online and get a training schedule. in fact im pretty sure if you posted this as a separate topic in 'health and fitness' you would probably get a whole bunch of great advice on where to start. once you have a decent base, then get to the gym. srsly there is no excuse for not fixing something that is so easily fixed. and its NOT COMPLICATED. girls, experience, confidence, thats all tough stuff with tricky answers (as you showed in the op). getting off your ass and fixing something in your life you arent happy with is about the easiest thing in the world. [ QUOTE ] It can be very hard to go to a gym, and feel that everyone else there is critiquing you. They aren't. Either they are just as fearful as you are, or they are helpful, or they are self involved. [/ QUOTE ] also to expand on this, noone is looking (i realise this may be irrelevant right now). i would say like <1% of gym ppl are 'fearful' (ime), like 95% are just completely self involved and of those 95% maybe 10% or so are openly helpful (ie will go out of their way to help you out without request). just from my experience, when i hit the gym apart from the ppl i know i dont want to even look at anyone else.... i just want to hit the machines and hit them hard. its the same for almost everyone.... |

Re: LOL Val DOESNT have a date
val, great. But at some point, please start going to your school gym (I am assuming you have one, and that it is cheap).
Going to a gym, after a short time would be great for your confidence. |

Re: LOL Val DOESNT have a date
valen,
fwiw, i'm exactly the same type of person as you. i've never been to a gym because i'm afraid of what ppl will think when i can't even figure out how to use the fkin equipment. i'm extremely intraverted in public and w/ ppl i don't know closely. and i have no confidence whatsoever in my ability to approach women, etc. its seriously a difficult spot because you spend your entire life w/ that type of personality. i know all the advice in this thread is good though. you need to just say "[censored] it, i'm gonna do this" and go through with it. its just a lot harder for you (or me) to actually do. its just like anything though, practice makes perfect. just get your ass out the door and try something new. |

[/ QUOTE ] the key to this, also, is that you'll likely run into a lot of good looking girls. or, at the very least, those that are making an attempt to improve their health/body. also you get to network and meet new ppl. its win/win |

Re: LOL Val DOESNT have a date
