He also said he wanted a good education system for the kids... don't think you can get that in SC...

She used to live in Pittsburgh when she first came to the U.S. and kind of misses it. I had been there a few times and actually liked it a lot.

Bob, please go check yourself into a mental institution QUICK! This can be cured if you get treatment for it in its early stages.

while it would depend on the wife's employment, a 3-month stay would be well within the bounds of an ordinary tourist visa.

[/ QUOTE ]

Right, but that won't work for trying to live and raise a family there.

[/ QUOTE ]

well, there are two separate instances here. i suspect that you'll be right for the 3-month visit by virtue of being a tourist, and, if you want to migrate internationally, while it'd obviously take more effort than moving interstate within the US, a tertiary educated couple (as I suspect, by implication, OP is) is not likely to have much difficulty.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's really not that easy to immigrate to Canada. We turn away a lot of Ameican's seeking immigration. Skilled or not.

I'm not going to find a link right now, but will later if wanted.

It's a really underrated place, especially for single dudes. As I've said here before, any non-offensive looking guy can dominate because guys from there think game consists of 1970's come ons.

There are a number of really high-end schools outside of the city proper, and colleges are top notch. The weather sucks a [censored] though.

Three sports teams, and a very good cultural district and museum set up. As far as food goes though, you better like Italian.

I don't know my way around the city that terribly well but I have been there a few times and definitely liked it better than a lot of cities I've been to.
Squirrel Hill area was very enjoyable and I liked the people there a ton as well.

I much prefer the people and feel of the northern and midwestern U.S.
Just friendlier in general in my experience.

If I had my choice of U.S. places for our tour we would be hitting Seattle, Madison, Chicago, Boston, small-town New England perhaps in NH, VT or ME and Washington DC.

Anyway, since we're probably not hitting many of those northern cities I'll take what I can get and Pittsburgh works decently enough for me.

Ft. Myers is not that great unless you like lots of old people and the beach a whole lot.
A cute, small downtown area but mostly pretty boring.

Louisville? Seriously? Maybe during Derby Week when it's a pretty fun time. But it's really not that great a place overall.

Flagstaff gets way too much snow for my taste, and it isn't exactly a large metro area. Charelston SC is very nice, but is very hot/humid for a good part of the year.

for people who've lived in vancouver...... isn't it really cold?

[/ QUOTE ]

Uhh, are you serious? It basically never gets below -5 (celcius), and is usually well above freezing in winter. It rarely has snow that sticks for any substantial period of time. Obviously it isn't Miami, but it's quite a bit warmer than Chicago come winter.

[/ QUOTE ]

-5 is 23 degrees fahrenheit. thats pretty cold. i'm curious for myself about vancouver, but i moved away from the cold(upstate ny) and don't know if i want to move back to a cold area.
