If you want to really give him a vacation send him to Thailand for awhile, yeah?

This thread is totally ridiculous.

Someone posts asking for suggestions of a gift to give to his friend and 3/4 of the thread is spent disparaging the gift giver and the friend. You haters should be ashamed of yourself.

So if you want to use this money to try to help him with him problem, I suggest something where he will be out of touch, but still having an exciting time, like a extreme sporting vacation.

Send Mark to that island where the girls compete in games wearing bikinis and in the nude. Mark will like that.

Buy him a class. I have never met Mark, but he strikes me as somebody who would benefit from a dance or improv class.

Agreed. I don't know Mark, but I do know Gary and he is stand up guy. There may be a small amount of altruism here, but good god, he's trying to do something nice for the guy! Very few motives are entirely selfless, but this one is mostly selfless so imo it hands down qualifies as a "good deed"

I also disagree with the poster who thought that this post just draws more attention to Mark and his problems. Recently it seems like a third of the freaking posts on this site are about Mark. How can you draw more attention to something that is already all over the news?

I like the vacation idea. Thailand would be a great idea, but only if later in the year. Right now would be a bad idea unless Mark likes sweating constantly.

I don't know him either, but I just wanted to mention that this might be a fantastic idea, if he's into it.. Maybe buy a few months worth of classes up front so that he doesn't drop out early on. It'll probably be a fun, totally new experience that'll give him something to work on and improve, a completely new and different set of friends, etc.

Safari in Africa. I guarantee you that 10 days in Kenya etc... brings back a different person. Between the experience on the Safari, and seeing how people live there, you always come back humbled, but also amazed.

You'd have to be made of ice to not find that trip life changing.
