All,

Today a friend ordered pizza, gave him a tip of a few dollars where one of the dollar bills was a $10 by accident. The pizza guy came back and knocked on the door, told him he accidentally gave him $10 extra. I don't know if he had him keep the $10 or gave him a $5 or what.

fare was like $10.20 at the most ... I hand the guy $12. He's like "c'mon man you only gave me $11" I say "no way I gave you 12" I grab the money and re-count since he's still holding it up by his head. I count it up and its 12 (2x5 + 2x1) .. take back a dollar bill. "now its 11" and leave.

Cheap...cheap...CHEAP people!!! TIP! Stop being so indignant, you nits. Debating 5-10% in tip difference is ridiculous when the difference is 1-4 dollars. Why would you care? The monetary difference to those in the service industry is huge over time, and relatively small for you for out-of-towners. You are poker players. Do something good for others for once!

Micro,

The thing is that the cabbies are already getting a lot of bang for their buck on the short-haul fares because of the meter pull charge and related flat fees and surcharges. In Chicago, for example, a 2-mile cab ride with one buddy at 25 MPH will cost you $8.25 ($4.12 per mile), and a 5-mile cab ride at the same speed will cost you $16.05 ($3.21 per mile). Also the short-haul rides will generally involve a destination where it will be easy for the cabbie to get his next fare. I'd think if you asked most cabbies, they'd tell you that their bread and butter is these sorts of trips.

If you guys are so bothered giving another dollar or two to someone driving you around, perhaps you should rent a car or, you know, not leave the house. Seriously, you are bitching about a couple of bucks. If the budget is stretched so thin that you can't afford this, perhaps you should spend less time on vacation and more time at work. Or school.

Nate,

I think for the most part this comes down to what you said earlier, a difference in attitude between people who take cabs regularly and those who only do it infrequently when on trips.

All,

Everyone tips the cocktail waitresses $5 per drink, though, right?

GambleAB,

How much do you tip poker dealers per hand? How much do you tip cocktail waitresses per drink? Just curious.

Dollar for a "normal" pot for the game, couple bucks for a "large" pot in the game. I tip cocktail waitress' between $1 and $5 depending on the change I have in my pocket.
