you can't seriously expect us to believe that evangelicals are not greatly underrepresented among the elite of logical type thinkers.

[/ QUOTE ]

I completely agree with this and probably with most/all of your views on God, athiesm, etc (haven't thought about it as much as you and haven't read all your posts).
But your prop-bet is still ridiculous.

I would think that perhaps five pecent of people could, if their life depended on it, obtain a Phd in physics from Cal Tech. But among evangelicals I would expect that perhaps one in a thousand could. Even if someone was holding a gun to their child's head.

This is far more interesting.
Not positive this is correct or not.
Seems that some of the southerners who are more or less brainwashed into such beliefs may have some untapped potential in there.
But overall I agree that those who believe in such stuff are far less likely to be among the intellectual elite.

I look at it this way.

If Sklansky is correct and there is was no Jesus who died for OUR sins, then oh well, he was correct and nothing happens after he dies.

But if Sklansky is incorrect about this, then he is going to hell.

[/ QUOTE ]

What about if my religious belief is that God sends to hell only those who DO believe in Jesus?

Stop using a test given to 16 year olds as a metric for anything. Thank You.

You still don't get it. This wasn't about me. The SAT challenge was just a publicity stunt to make a point.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe we travel in different circles David, but most everyone I know thinks you welched on that bet.

David: "Bet?"

SomeGuy: "Book."

David: "Lol, publicity stunt!"

This is a really retarded challenge. If Sklansky really wanted to do anything other than say 'Look at me, I'm smart, I really am!', he'd choose a difficult test that wasnt a lock to get 100%, i.e. an IQ test where people would actually have a chance of beating him.

[/ QUOTE ]

This wasn't about me. It was about those people who say all Jews and Muslims who have died are now in hell. Regardless of how they lived their lives. I would have much rather bet that none of them are in the top 1000 in particle physics or advanced calculus. But since I am not either, and I know no one who would take that that test for me, I had to settle for the SAT.

In any case the only reason I commented here was because people were incorrectly saying that I welshed on a bet.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can we do the same challenge but with a verbal test?

Or more to the point, stop using a test where the distribution's tail is cut off on the high side.

I could pass Dave's polygraph (at least the way it was originally stated, he seems to be changing the details over time) and I have an 800 math GRE & logic. I could get another 800 math without any difficulty whatsoever.

If you want to actually make a statement, Dave, offer the bet where an 800-800 tie isn't a push. Afterall, if your hypothesis is right, I'm lying and can't really get that 800

As it stands, Dave's bet makes NO statement about the intelligence of evangelicals, because he's rigged it so that a tie is the likely outcome.

DS... have you taken into consideration the number of evangelicals that are born gifted.. but as described in earlier posts "were brain washed into their religion" or do you think the majority of these individuals took a critical look at their beleifs and revaluated their beliefs...??

also..

Anyone who wants to continue this debate with me needs to bring it to the SMP forum.
