[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The NFL has a teflon image. NBA is the league of thugs and MLB is the league of steroids despite the NFL probably having both more thugs and more cheaters. [/ QUOTE ] This is true right now, but how much more of this will the NFL be able to take. Sooner or later this could come back to haunt them. I can understand how the league is tyring to prevent this change by cracking down on a few players and making it seem like they are tough (see steroids policy). Although to a certain extent I agree with CaseClosed and Gamble. If we get to the point where the league is cracking down before we find out if a player is even guilty of an infraction we are walking down a slippery slope. [/ QUOTE ] luckily we are in the internet media and youtube age and we really don't have to worry about that. every month we go one step closer to everything that happens being able to be seen online. [/ QUOTE ] Well, look what happened to the Duke Lacrosse kids. If this was the NFL this could have been a year suspention. |

A whole season is way too much. Jamal Lewis was suspended for like 2 games after he got caught dealing coke. Ray Lewis didn't get suspended at all for the whole murder incident. Leonard Little got half a season and he killed someone. No one will stop watching the NFL if Pacman was only suspended for 4 games or something. Sure he's a thug, but so is half the league.

[/ QUOTE ] but the thing is that those events have helped trigger this new conduct policy, it would be unreasonable to judge their punishments with this as a new policy is now in place...someone needs to made an example of and who better than a guy with double digit arrests?? |

[/ QUOTE ] Stop saying they need to lower these because they're not in line with past punishments. They're not supposed to be. The old system wasn't working so they're changing it. These are supposed to be more harsh, and I'd expect future punishments will be more in line with these. |

Wes-
[ QUOTE ] true... its also sad that it took the NFL this long to grow a pair when it comes to suspending players. Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, their suspensions were a joke compaired to these recent ones. [/ QUOTE ] Why don't you just say you are happy that the NFL is taking the proper actions instead of feeling the need to FIND a way to bitch about everything. First you twist Jack's post around, then when you realize he is saying the same thing as you you feel it necessary to bring up old incidents that happened with the previous commissioner. Why not be positive that the new commissioner is at least trying to do something, I mean it seems like that is your thoughts? [ QUOTE ] The NFL has a teflon image. NBA is the league of thugs and MLB is the league of steroids despite the NFL probably having both more thugs and more cheaters. [/ QUOTE ] This is such a true statement. This statement also proves the overwhelming side that has been taken that Pac-Man's suspension was too harsh. In baseball if a player has grown in size, or another player has been caught using steroids and that player rats out another player or whatever the case may be...the mere suspicion of cheating and you are burned at the stake. It is almost blasphemy to talk about such a player. A guy like Shawn Merriman tests positive for performance enhancing drugs--says it wasn't steroids but one of his supplements or something that skewed the results whatever. If this were a baseball player he would be called a liar. But he is a football player and he gets his mini-suspension and a warm welcome when he gets back on the field after his strong support throughout his time off the field. I don't see how anyone can't see the difference in people's attitudes and hypocrisy when it comes to football and the way these players get away with murder, literally. Pac-Man shouldn't even be on a football field he should be in jail. Give me a reason why he should be on the field? Just b/c he is a football star and an exceptional talent doesn't haven anything to do with not being able to continually act like a thug off the field. I can understand a wrong place at the wrong time learn from your mistake incident or even a mistake but he has had like a dozen incidents where it was "the wrong place at the wrong time," after a while you can't just let this guy play a game for millions and let him do whatever harm to himself and others he wants to as well. Why is that fair? |

[ QUOTE ]
The NFL has a teflon image. NBA is the league of thugs and MLB is the league of steroids despite the NFL probably having both more thugs and more cheaters. [/ QUOTE ] Quoted again for truth. It's goddamn annoying when I get that stupid "thug" response from people when discussing the NBA, when in fact they just don't like the product and that's an easy justification. (FWIW I haven't heard the "thug" thing in a long time, possibly because I stopped bringing up the NBA with people or possibly because the league's efforts to clean up its image have been working, or maybe because here in Phoenix everyone loves the Suns, a likely byproduct of the Cardinals being a joke, the D'Backs not doing much since they pozzed the Yankees, and nobody caring about hockey.) |

If you stop watching because one or two players do something really stupid like assault someone then cool. But most of these players are no criminals. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think that's because interest in the NBA is probably at a near all-time low. There's no defense whatsoever in the league anymore, the best teams are winning 130-123 games in regulation, and guys like LeBron and Melo and D-Wade are just starting to really blossom into marketable guys. A lot of the more popular guys are getting older (Shaq, anybody?). Probably the biggest story of the last few years was the Brawl in Detroit. No real dynasties to speak of, still no true heir apparent to MJs throne...just no solid marketing like they had back in the day. |
