You would not go far wrong if you went with Stigmata's list. I would ditch the Halloumi and Feta from that as not suitable for the night you have planned and add a couple of soft french or Italian cheeses such as St. Agur, Camembert, Gorgonzola.
Not sure where you would get these in SF as from what I remember of the US their cheese selection on the whole is not great. Maybe a decent deli like place. One final thing is to let them get to room temp prior to eating - they will smell more but taste much better. |

Please, name me a US cheese that compares to anything on this list and I will definately get some and be excited about trying it. [/ QUOTE ] This may have been mentioned before, but... Cougar Gold Cougar Gold. Made in the U.S., and damn good. |

When you guys visit the U.S. do you only shop at Wal Mart? There's a wide variety of cheese available here. Cheese from around the world and great home grown stuff also. |

Was tasting wine at Paraduxx last weekend, and was pleasantly suprised by a small snack plate they brought out w/ the wine.
Rosemary almonds, crackers and some AWESOME cheese. I got the name of it when I left. The lady told me it is San Joaquin. A google search revealed San Joaquin Gold cheese by Fiscalini Cheese Co. of Modesto California. Worth a try. |

My favorite cheese by far is 'Delice de pommard'. It is a soft, creamy cow's milk cheese rolled in mustard seeds. The mustard really adds a great flavor to the cheese. Its made in the Burgundy region of France and goes well with a red Burgundy.
